The day that X360 sells more than Vita is when Sony's handheld days are done. It was relatively close this week.

well heres the thing...in japan, the vita has sold just over 1 million in hardware. Also, Monster Hunter 3G has sold just over 1.5 million while the 3DS is around 8million. That is an 18.5% attach rate (for a game that has been released before and was recently put on the eShop)...even if you give the MH vita a 50% attach rate, it would still only sell 1/3 of what the 3DS version sold...its really hard to believe that MHvita would sell better on the vita than the 3DS |
A Monster Hunter announcement alone would make the Japanese go out and buy a Vita.
There are so many PSP Monter Hunter fans, I think the transition into Vita WILL happen eventually. There's no reason why people can't have both a 3DS and a Vita. But at this point though(if the game isn't already in development), Sony needs to beg for this game from Capcom.
It's really surprising for me that Sony isn't even trying to be #1 in Japan. I think from the very beginning they settled on just being #2, but it seems even that is unlikely. When the 3DS outsells the Vita 46:1, THAT is when you need to panic. If this doesn't set off alarms at Sony HQ, nothing will. Price cut is needed in Japan more than anywhere else. Immediately.
Well, seems like it won't even be a contest in Japan (but to be honest we knew that since months ago). The problem for sony is that they don't have any 3rd party support at all and unlike Nintendo they don't have the first party power to keep a console alive by themselves, however this is actually a good thing for gaming. You only need to purchase a 3DS now and you will have the best 1st and 3rd party software of the world :D

And we all know what happened with the Dreamcast...
Were people expecting these kind of sales for AC? I never knew it was this big in japan
03/10/09 HUGE day in my life:

I don't think any Japanese devloper would make a game exclusively for Vita anymore. Sony would really have to pay them to make the game, fund it themselves and maybe publish it too. |
Exactly my point. So if you don't have exclusives, then what attracts people to the console?
And if the 3DS is outselling it by such a large amounth, then why bother even making the Vita version in the first place?
I can only imagine the scene getting worse. With DQVII and MH4 coming out early next year, for the 3DS, I think the Vita has literally no chance. The way things are going, of course.

Don't bring that up; you're making me all nostalgic. Those were the days alright...perhaps the WiiU will present some excitement but I just don't know. |
Conegamer, is this your first profile?..it says you joined in the end of August 2010..now I don´t really remember, but if I´m not mistaken by that time the site had already ceased to be always about sales...that was back in 07 and 08.

Yes it is my first profile. I was just a lurker back as long as '08, before any of the VGChartz divisions into different catergories. But even in 2010 there was a lot of sales talk; namely around the Wii dropping off and the PS3 rising. But now; even with the launch of a new system next week, there seems to be relatively little sales interest.
