Forums - Sony Discussion - Retailers are cutting back Sony shelf space.

I live where a significant player in the big-box discount department store retailer is based (i.e. Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart), and the news for Sony isn't good.

With the Wii U being released this November this retailer will be cutting the Sony section in the gaming area from 8 feet of retail space, down to 4 feet.  Giving the Wii, Wii U, and DS/3DS 12 feet and the Xbox 360 12 feet.

Likewise, while unsold Xbox 360 wireless wheels remain on pegs, Sony accessories are getting discontinued.  This means that for November and December the PS3 will have less retail shelve/peg space to compete against both Nintendo and Microsoft.  This won't be good for Sony's Christmas sales, unless merchandise will be shipped in for 1-day sales or something.  Anyone looking to purchase a PS3 will find a smaller selection of not only consoles, but also of accessories and games.

They are unfortunate times for Sony.

You are so cruel LOLOLOLOLOLOL

I live in Outer Botswona and pretty much all the Sega Saturn space was reduced to zero a few weeks ago.

So sad.

Luckily for Sony, multiple big box retailers (especially electronic ones) are out of business, in the process of going out of business or are in dire straights.

And that will help Sony in which way?

Nintencity.

Sad to hear that for Sony. But that's the US, where Xbox dominates and Wii-U is going to sell extremely well, at least in the short term.

In my local Gamestation (UK), 1 wall and 1 rack (idk how to describe it) of space are PS3, 1 wall of space is 360, 1 rack of space is Wii, and there are 2 racks in the middle which are divided between PSP, PSV, DS, 3DS & PS2.  Haven't really checked supermarkets, but at least in Tesco where I do shop it's about equally divided between PS3, Wii & 360 at the moment (with 3DS & Vita getting negligible amounts of space)

Sony can focus on their own branded stores where shelf space is not an issue (for hardware), focus on digital where margins are better for software.
