Forums - PC Discussion - Razer mouse (and keyboard) DRM requiring internet

Long story short, my high end Logictech mouse became clicky (single click registered as double and single/double click registered as no click).

I shopped around for a new mouse and ended up picking a razer star war mouse. 12 programmable thumb buttons that I thought could be useful to assign hotkeys.

Why do they think it's a good idea to require user to login before you mouse can have settings loaded?

So, if you boot up your computer but your internet died. All your settings cannot be loaded.

Looks like it will be the first and also last time I have to deal with razer. Most unfortunate. The hardware is well built.

Star Wars + Disney = Star Wars + Mouse = bad

Star Wars is doomed confirmed.

Entire Razer is moving to cloud DRM.
Next thing you know, they'll claim I rented their mouse.

Razer tracks every click you made on those p0rn sites Galaki....

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

This is absolutely ridiculous. How come people haven't made a bigger deal out of this?

They are, but I guess with Razer you are looking at the hardcore crowd so the news is likely only propagated through enthusiast websites and not the mainstream media.

"Razer™ respects the privacy of its Subscribers." My ass. Time to look elsewhere for your gaming peripheral needs, everyone.

It got to #4 or #5 on Reddit front page, and there was a story on Ars Technica with a (BS) statement from the CEO of Razer. People have made a big deal it's just that Razer haven't backed down.

They are stupid not to of course, because premium gaming stuff is ALL ABOUT IMAGE. If millions of potential buyers have read negative press about you and then a BS denial froim your CEO that's a lot of lost sales. This cloud stuff doesn't even make them money.

After some more usage, this thing is still as ridiculous.
So, every time you boot up the computer, all the settings must be reloaded, meaning, connect to their stupid cloud.
WTF is wrong with saving the settings on my computer?

I was under the impression that the mice still had onboard memory. Then again, I am not following this. What I do know is that the Razer Lachesis is fucking awesome.
