Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U needs an update to play Wii disc games

Non issue

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

A lot of machines Ive bought have required day one updates so I don't see the big deal...updates are the way of the world these days. I suppose it's a problem for the few that don't have wifi but how many of them are there really????
Isn't there an ethernet addon??? as for buying a wii u just to play wii games (which I cant imagine but still)...I already own a machine that can do that and I'm sure you do too!!!

First the Wii U's chat, then no ethernet port and now this...man the bad things are stacking up.

Why am I not surprised that this thread didn't take off?

Because the ethernet port is a bottleneck.

considering that almost 30m 360 gamers don't have an online account (and therefore don't have their console connected to the internet) it's going to affect a large number of future WiiU owners.
On the other hand if you really want to be able to play Wii games on your WiiU you should get it done without that much trouble.

There you have it, then. In addition to it being an antipiracy measure or whatever else, it's an inducement to get your console on the network. If you don't you'll miss out on all these features!

Better pray your wi-fi doesn't keep crapping out on you...

I'm still confused by this. What do they mean updates? Do they mean the updates that require to be activated when you first insert the disc? Because if that's the case, then doesn't the the wii disc already have the update in it (it just needs to be activated).

I'm pretty sure that's just it since the wii u has the wii hardware in it to even have backwards compatibility. I thought this was a non issue for wii owners who didn't/don't have internet.
