GTA 5 Will Sell '25 Million Copies In 12 Months'

GTA 5 is on course to become one of the most successful games of all time according to analyst Jesse Divnich.

GTA 5 could sell more than 25 million copies in it's first 12 months on sale, according to EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich.

GTA 5 officially became available to pre-order today - an info blowout and a new trailer for the game are expected this week.

"The HD market is softening as we enter into the tail end of this generation, but fortunately this softening has had little impact on our precious AAA titles," Divnich told NowGamer. "In the case of GTA V, I have little concerns about when it is released. GTA IV already proved to the market that even an April release, which has historically been avoided by the industry, can support a 20M+ title."

GTA 5's timing comes as worldwide PS3 and Xbox 360 sales are generally considered to have peaked.

"Whether April, June, or even Winter, I’d expect GTA V to sell in upwards of 25M copies in its first 12 months," Divnich predicted.

HMV is currently predicting a 5 April release date - we think a post-March date is probably on the money.

If they would release it on the Wii U then I would say yes.

As it comes out in spring. It will have most of the year to get the sales. So 25 million should be very much possible.

25mil seems kind of out there. GTAIV has gotten to 20mil with amazing legs for an hd title. Considering there hasn't been a grand theft auto in 4 years and there have been more sandbox games coming out over the past 2 years than ever, I think its a bit soon to be predicting call of duty level sales for GTAV.

I understand where you are coming from and you are probably right that the forecast is really optimistic. The increased sales is just taking the expanded console base into account compared to its last iteration. I think 15-20 million copies would still be the best and more conservation estimate of sales in first year. Also we don't when the pc version would be launching. So that makes 25 a bit hard i guess.

I hope so. That would be a nice boost for Wii U and it will play smoother with the extra ram :)

It will still have the least amount of sales though.

No way. When it's released, PS3 and 360 will be closer to the end of their life cycles, and I highly doubt that it'll sell on Wii U.

Exactly where is this 25 million in one year prediction coming from? GTA IV is 4.5 years old. Even with phenomenal first week sales and great legs, it has only sold 19.95 million on PS360 to date.

No way at all. GTA IV is still a long way off that and released earlier in the system's life, and has had much longer to accumulate sales.

Impossible. I can see it selling 25m LT, but on the first year? Hell no. I believe that even CoD hasn't reached numbers like those on its first year.
