There doesn't need to be a new F-Zero.

Only F-Zero GX HD.

A puristic return of the series wouldn't hurt, developed in-house. Drop the elements Sega brought in (most notably the 11 additional vehicles and the ability to build your own) and build on F-Zero X as the foundation. Focus on the framerate and get five player splitscreen modes running on the Wii U (one player using the Gamepad screen, obviously) with 30 vehicles in the race. The greatest addition of Mario Kart Wii weren't the online modes, but customizable four player GPs in local multiplayer. Something that MK64 and DD!! failed to deliver. Of course, once you got local multiplayer running, you can bring it all online as well.

Another thing that can be taken from the Mario Kart series is the number of tracks. Make 30 new ones and add 30 classic tracks. Expand the Death Race mode with more tracks.

This reaction of Miyamoto also sums up Nintendo's main problem in general: "I am also very curious and I’d like to ask those people: Why F-Zero? What do you want that we haven’t done before?" - Looking at the sales charts, it should be pretty obvious that gamers want more of the same. The presence of sequels or lack thereof make the biggest difference when it comes to sustained hardware sales or lack thereof. While every other company pumps out sequels, Nintendo takes the route of: "We've made this game before, we do not want to make it again."

nintendo is pleased as punch to "more of the same" when the franchise is selling blockbuster amounts.  just look at SSBB, mario kart, NSMB. there are twicks and such but no more than any other sequel out there.

but i do agree with you the "presence of sequels or lack thereof makes the biggest difference when it comes to sustained sales".  i just feel like nintendo doesn't respect the games with mid level success anymore.   just because a game only sells ~1m doesn't mean the franchise has to be completely changed or put to rest.  variety please.  some occasional "niche" titles are good for the video gaming diet.

..and especially gen to gen.  i don't care if the game has been made before and you don't do anything significant to change up the gameplay.  i don't go back and play my previous gen hardware anymore, i just want a new version for the new hardware sometimes.  i mean, i still buy every R&C game and that franchise is very stagnant.  MOOOORRe!

Perhaps that will be a project for him and his new smaller team to tackle. I mean, F-Zero doesn't really need to have the most intense art assets in the universe (because you basically have only 5 or 6 track-types, which are then designed differently to make 20+ tracks)

Smaller budget, but more gameplay focused, and then they could make it worthwhile.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo give me a new F-Zero or give me death....

OMG that would be the easiest game to update.

- Online Play
- Custom Track Editor
- Motion Control Steering
- 3D visuals (if on the 3DS)
-HD Graphics (if on Wii U)
- Street Pass Races (if on the 3DS)

I'm surprised there hasn't been an F-Zero in so long.

even miyamoto is puzzled as to why nintendo fans would rather play the same IP over and over rather than a completly new one ......

Im With You Miyamoto

I dont know why Nintendo dont revive some of their IPs like F Zero, Wave Race,or 1080, It didnt do them any harm when they revived Kid Icarus on 3DS. That game is on its way to being a million seller.

And new tracks.

And new gameplay modes.

And support for many features of a brand new console which your employer just happens to have created.
