Perhaps crowfunding a new f-zero is the best way for nintendo to know if the game has real demand.
Its a no brainer for the Wii U, it stands out as one of the titles which could probably be outsourced without serious fear of a 3rd party developer ruining it. It probably nowhere near as costly as nintendo main franchises (zelda/3D Mario). They definitely need to do it, I don't recall a large amount of people calling for Punch Out yet they released that irrelevant game anyway -_-

F-Zero X actually sold pretty well.

It suffered the same fate as F-zero. Look at the sales numbers VGchartz has on them:

I don't think we'll seeing that franchise back. The best chance would be a remade, who would do exceptionally well. So a real sequel would be made. A rather small chance at this point.

It still sold 1 million+ copies. That's not exactly mediocre.
I don't want a halo 4. I don't want metal gear solid 5. I don't want an Assassin's creed 3. I don't want a mario party whatever number they're on. I don't want Just Dance 4. I don't want resistance 4. Certainly don't want Unreal tournament 2013+.
On his defense, there are too many sequals out there for the same game with a new shine.
As a couple have pointed out, nobody really wants a new F-Zero. They just want to moan about it because it's the "in" thing to do.
F-Zero mechanics can't cut it in the 21st century anyway.
Fzero will do great on the 3DS, you watch
Online multiiplayer would be insane on a new F Zero. Last F Zero I played was the N64 version. God that was a good game.
