Maybe he is pissed that the best Fzero game was made by a Sega studio..

I think you might be right that he's pissed, but not for the reason you mentioned.

Did you ever see this article: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20037961,00.html

This is from an interview with Miyamoto:

You've had great success in your ability to predict what players will find fun to play. Have there been games that you thought would be fun but didn't turn out that way?
Yes, that has definitely happened. In the past we've worked with some outside development houses on titles like F-Zero and Starfox — and let me just say that we were disappointed with the results. Consumers got very excited about the idea of those games, but the games themselves did not deliver...

Who knows if he means disappointing sales or disappointing game, but clearly Miyamoto was unhappy with the end result.

Lol. Look at that...In that case I think he's going senile.Fzero gx was the best reviewed, funniest and most likely best selling Fzero ever made... Don't make me pull out the reviews Shigeru...

Best selling? Not according to VGchartz.

1 F-Zero SNES 1990 Racing Nintendo 1.37 0.51 0.89 0.07 2.85
2 F-Zero X N64 1998 Racing Nintendo 0.45 0.33 0.29 0.03 1.10
3 F-Zero: Maximum Velocity GBA 2001 Racing Nintendo 0.39 0.16 0.37 0.12 1.04
4 F-Zero GX GC 2003 Racing Nintendo 0.41 0.11 0.12 0.02 0.65

It's obvious, the man is referring to sales. Which decreased by more or less 50% with each new (console) game after the SNES one. If i saw these numbers, i wouldn't think of making a new F-zero game. At all.

F Zero X is the only good F Zero. Just rerelease that in 1080p and 60fps on the Wii U with online play and I'd buy it.

F-Zero GX was easily my favorite. Too bad the sales were disappointing; that game is still amazing today with its widescreen mode and impressive graphics/framerate. I'd love to see what Sega could do with the series on WiiU.

this is an outrage!.. nintendo should make more declining in sales franchise!..

but yeh he is right.. what else can they do with it?.. slapping on online and 1080p... watch the haters blow up and make a field day of it... not until they can do something new with it no point creating it. It has to be something very new in terms of gameplay

@kupomogli .. yeh you will.. but who else?.. it may not even make it close to 100k unit sold..

I'm not convinced a lot of the people asking for F-Zero are actually big F-Zero fans, but joining in because it's become the "forgotten" Nintendo franchise they hear about. People did the same with Punch-Out!!, Kid Icarus, and even Ice Climbers.

I'm not saying F-Zero is a bad series, I fuggin' love it, but where were these so-called fans when the series needed the sales?

couldnt the lower sales be linked to the fact that Ninty systems were selling less. I mean sure Fzero Gx didnt sell as much but that was a GC game. i can see where he is coming from, but i do sympathize with the fans. There is a compromise, they can do what Sony did and just do a cheaper DL game like Wipeout HD, that way the fanbase could be satisfied and it wont be a huge risk for them

First of all, this doesn't exactly sound like a perfect translation, so some of the meaning may have been lost. But from this translation, Miyamoto doesn't sound so much "puzzled" as genuinely curious to me. The series was declining in sales, so Nintendo probably figured there wasn't much demand for it and shut it down, especially since they have another very popular racing game. Miyamoto probably lost interest in the series, as well, feeling that he had done everything he could with the game. Recently there's a renewed interest in F-Zero, and his question "What do you want that we haven't done before?" strikes me as somewhat sincere. Maybe he is genuinely interested in what fans want from a new F-Zero game. It's almost like he's asking us to convince him to give it the green light, especially with a comment like, "Try to wait by playing Nintendo Land's F-Zero mini-game." ...Wait for what? Again, it could be a subtle mistranslation, or it could be a glimmer of hope that Nintendo may consider reviving the series.

It would be the perfect time to revive the franchise. F-Zero has always been a nice demonstration of what each Nintendo platform could do and would undoubtedly make a statement on Wii U at 60FPS with HD visuals.

If this franchise isnt gonna get a revisit anytime soon, what are the chances of my beloved Wave Race getting another sequel :(

Just let Shin'en make it. This solves the problem of finding more amanita muscaria for Miyamoto so that he can produce more oddball ideas, and gives hard-working independent developers a shot at making a game for a genre in which they have proved capable.
