Forums - Sales Discussion - Why does VGC get a bad rap?

I'm curious why VGC numbers aren't considered correct by alot of people?

Around the Network

Because they don't want the numbers to be real.

Fanboys = Rumors

NPD propaganda

I'm not sure why, they are always close to NPD's and the other ones.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)
Nintendo ID: Mako91                  3DS code: 4167-4543-6089

there hardware numbers are very good, software is hit or miss(MP 8 was spot on, but SMG was 600k off and CoD4 was like 1 million off between PS3 and 360 version)

It does not bother me their software is sketchy at times, they always correct them, Using NDP and Financial Statements.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

While a lot of it is due to fanboys who don't like what the numbers say I think the majority of it stems from ioi's "conflict" with neogaf.  Neogaf is a fairly popular community and their mods make it abundantly clear that they despise VGC, so people just go with it because thats what the community as a whole is told to think.

To know which side of the issue is being reasonable you only have to look to see which community allows open debate on the subject.  At Neogaf a topic about VGC will be locked and you will likely be banned, I've personally seen a number of these threads there.  Here at VGC if you want to discuss neogaf there is no nazi mod patrol coming to lock or ban a thread for that.   The truth doesn't need to hide from open discussion.

Anyways those members at neogaf champion the cause to other sites they frequent and thats where the fanboys come in.  Basically if there is data that defies your point of view and someone gives you the slightest reason to doubt it then you will.  Its human nature.  This is precisely why we have a lot of Wii fans here...the numbers are very Wii positive, fortunately for us the numbers are also supported by "professional" tracking services.

Ultimately though, none of that matters because it really doesn't matter what people say. So long as the data stays reliable the site will get the respect it deserves in time.  VGC is already used in major news publications  as a source so its really only a matter of time before mainstream acceptance provided accuracy is maintained..

To Each Man, Responsibility

This is probably the wrong place to ask, you'll get nothing but biased answers here.

As in go buy us some coffee.

Well I came here from another gaming site forum ,not any you mentioned, that claimed that VGC numbers are all guesswork and are not accurate. I came here and saw you guys had a big community so I thought I would ask.

I say its because they think that when companies say "X consoles sold" They think its sold to consumers, when its actually sold to retail.

I don't understand the big beef with neogaf, what exactly happened that made them hate us so much?
