Hmmm, the leveling up doesn't actually sound appealing at all. I might wait for a bargain price on this one.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Well, I probably exaggerated the disadvantages of leveling up some. You'll have decent guns by level 10, and the truth is that if your good, the guns you are using won't matter much. It also really doesn't take long. It took me about 2.5 hours to get to lvl 10 before I knew about the leveling Shipment FFA games. Once I found out about those, it only took me another 2 hours to get to level 25 (which requires a lot more experience). Also, just because you use it to level up doesn't mean the shipment deathmatches aren't fun. They are quite addicting actually.

Another point is, if you like CS or CS:S, you'll probably like CoD4. The multiplayer especially really feels like a modern rebirth of CS. The maps are great, and they allow for lots of strategy, and huge server population caps (up to 100 on custom servers) make it hectic and fun. I don't recommend playing on servers higher than 50 though or you won't get the chance to use much strategy haha. It really does feel like war though in a 25 on 25 match like that. There are also some really cool modes like Hardcore Mode where you get no crosshairs, no hud, and bullets kill like they would in real life.

I agree with you naz, the grenades are the most annoying thing of the game, the enemies trow them with such accuracy they hit you, literally, with them.

but generaly the game is very good, and some of the missions are between the best i've ever seen in a videogame.

My definition of fanboy: An idiot that misses 2/3 of the fun.

Gah, I was at 2% 20 minutes ago, I check on it now and it was still at 2%! It said downloading, but for some reason it wasn't. A restart of Steam solved the problem though.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I play this on PS3 instead of the PC so I could hear it on my home theater system (with it's 120 watt subwoofer). My living room sound like a war zone. So for me DD5.1 adds to the experince.

Well, I own it, and I play it a lot, but it has its disadvantages.

1.) Those freaking dogs that jump on you and make you hit the melee button at a specific time are just stupid. They shouldn't be in the game, and they are annoying.

2.) The grenade indicator blows, and of course, the AI is awesome at throwing grenades. You will die from grenades far more than you like, especially on higher difficulties.

3.) It's really really really scripted. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but understand that you will rarely have the ability to flank the enemy due to the limits of the battlefield you are on (in single-player).

4.) It's really really really short. I beat the entire game on Hardened (2nd highest difficulty level) in 4.5 hours. My friends and I joke that they named it Call of Duty 4 because that's how many hours it takes to beat it.

5.) Online play is cool (especially on 50 man PC servers), but the level up system puts new owners at a heavy disadvantage. Luckily, there are some "Shipment" map deathmatches designed to help you level up faster, but it still kinda sucks to have to spend a bunch of time leveling to have good guns.

Some positives are: The campaign has great pacing and story. It's like playing through a very good action movie. Although the leveling up kinda sucks, the online is very good. You'll find hours of enjoyment, especially on the PC version with much larger servers than the console versions. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of PC FPS games, but don't go in expecting it to be better than Orange Box on PC... you'll be disappointed.

1. Agreed. It took me awhile to figure out how to melee those things. However, usually you can just shoot them (which is why it took me awhile).

2. I dunno, I liked the indicator. I didn't play on harder difficulties, though, because I rent.

3. Well, yeah, it's a scripted FPS. Infinite spawns are the only downside, imo.

4. Heh, yeah, it's rather short, just like most FPS these days, but what you get is awesome.  The MP is awesome, too.

5. This seems to be the biggest complaint, but I enjoy having to work my way up. You gain early levels really quickly and can get most of the important upgrades early on. It's nice to have incentives to keep playing and knowing that I can get better gear. I didn't have that hard of a time at low levels. I returned it, though, so that I can get it for PC (played it on PS3). I look forward to leveling up there. It's like playing a PVP MMO, except that the odds really aren't that bad and get better quickly. I say look at it as a challenge and incentive to level up.

It's not the same type of game as Orange Box. The only multiplayer for Orange Box is TF2, so it's basically those 2 games versus each other for MP. Orange Box for PC is unquestably the best deal ever because the single player experience is longer, but CoD4 holds its own.

^there are so many levels that make it totally worth it

True, but the AC-130 level just oozed pure awesome.

So did the sniper level now that I think about it.

I think gamesradar named it the greatest level in gaming ever

They killed me about 5 times in a row

2.) The grenade indicator blows, and of course, the AI is awesome at throwing grenades. You will die from grenades far more than you like, especially on higher difficulties.

My problem was that you could not really tell whether or not you need to move, with the same indicator, sometimes you live and sometimes you die

3.) It's really really really scripted. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but understand that you will rarely have the ability to flank the enemy due to the limits of the battlefield you are on (in single-player).

Whenever I thought I was outflanking the enemy, there were like 5 enemies waiting for me

4.) It's really really really short. I beat the entire game on Hardened (2nd highest difficulty level) in 4.5 hours. My friends and I joke that they named it Call of Duty 4 because that's how many hours it takes to beat it.

Made up for by about 20 hours online, so far

I don't think there is a problem, as a n00b, you have to expect to die a lot, and you do. But it does get better as soon as you get a proper assault rifle
