Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Plus Has Become A "Nice Weapon In Our Arsenal" Says Sony

I guess we're going to see an Xbox Live Platinum level subscription? It'll be pretty interesting if they rolled together say their Xbox Music subscription plus say Netflix/Hulu or their own equivalent and games with all the gold trim for say $25 a month. Then they could offer the Xbox 360/Xbox Infinity for $99 with a two year subscription and it'd be a win/win for customers and content producers.

Tease.

when it was on offer for £30 over here i jumped in,you can stack it someone said if i see another offer but not sure

infamous 2 and red dead were good for me seeing as i hadn't bought them,do they just keep adding a game a month seems like quite a lot to me because it stays, hope they do the driver game soon

that halloween sale was pretty nifty too

Yeah it's usually one "big" game per month and then a couple little extra games plus whatever else they give (discounts betas etc). I know next month for Europe it's Crysis 2.

anyone have any ideas what game we're getting for november?

I think so far it's only been announced for Europe, which is Crysis 2

Have been a member since day 1; won't be changing.

Would REALLY like to know:
1) Number of subscribers
2) Number of yearly vs monthly subscribers
3) How the free games model works: No way Sony pays the publisher much (if any) per download; the $55 would be gone in a few games. But if that is the case why would the publishers offer? This has made me scratch my head since the free games started.

3. I too speculated on this. The games that are free, Id imagine they are not recent and therefore downloads have slowed to a crawl.Digital game sales are far more profitable then retail since its really just downloading a copy of a game.

Id imagine Sony could pay maybe $1-$2 dollars per free game. Publisher gets some revenue from downloads that werent getting any action by themselves, and im sure Sonys makes maybe at least $10 profit from every yearly subscriber.

That is possible. For purchases (I bought House of the Dead Collection) then it obviously was very profitable but the free games could be like you said above.

I've had both the yearly and 3 month subscription plus that time when they added like a month or more due to the psn outage. So in total about 16 or 17 months of it and like over 20+ games in the backlog (too many deals!). Definitely gonna renew for the year again once November comes.

If I were to take a good educated guess, I would say Sony probably gives the publishers a better royalty rate for a period of time, on not only the game, but possibly the other DLC stuff too.

Sony makes lots of these deals with publishers....that's why they do things like, give them extra's and extra games on BluRay disks and whatnot. And it's potentially more lucrative to make these types of deals with Sony, considering they are selling across multiple platforms.
