Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 experiences biggest hack yet.

You have to be at 3.55 firmware or lower? This hack is useful for a few thousand people at best then.

From what I've gathered you only need a PS3 that was manufactured when 3.55 has not been released yet.
Then you can still downgrade to 3.55 even if you had 4.X on it.
So still the vast majority of all sold PS3s are able to do this.

You can't downgrade without a mod chip (progskeet ATM).

After PS3 Slim CECH-30* it's impossible to downgrade or rack (yet)... all PS3 shipped after July, 2011.

Yeah it's not like many people do it on their own. Someone will offer to do that job for a few bucks. Call it "technical support" lol.

Still means nothing to the average consumer.

Sony did one hell of a job with this system other companies should take pointers I just wonder how many millions they saved from it.

so from what i am getting only old models can get hacked? even if its after the 3.55 firmware?

Nothing changed about that... the old models even without this key can be hacked.

so, to clarify things (hopefully) what is possible or not, which ps3 you should have and so on, read this:

http://wololo.net/2012/10/25/clarifying-the-confusion-on-the-ps3-development/

this guy knows more about the hack than we all together know, so just listen to him and take it for sure.

Well this is good to know. I'll have to include this tidbit when I go to sell my PS3 as its one of the "rare" hackable models.

It really doesn't matter this late in the generation. Sony shouldn't take it too seriously. Not many people hack their consoles. It's a difficult process for most.

You can downgrade if you have a old model... nothing change with this new keys... this new keys just speed up the time to hack the new firmware released by Sony.

Even without this key the hack community already have the Firmware 4.20 hacked.
