Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Let's play Monster Hunter Tri together (Next: Friday at 9 Eastern 6 Pacific)

Most monsters only have one, perhaps two elemental attacks, so while element resistance can be huge for some fights, it's utterly meaningless in others. ESPECIALLY if you're fighting a monster that doesn't even use that element in the first place.

You'll get a better idea of what your playstyle is and how to emphasize your strengths/buff up your weaknesses as you go along, so don't sweat it at this point. I was just curious.

No worries there: everyone sucks at the game until they don't anymore!

Any idea what weapon and armor you'd like to go for?

I'm really enjoying the hammer right now, I think it's a fun weapon. On the long run I'll probably use a sword.

Other than that, I'm not sure what armor is the best, but I like to have high defense. The element resistance is important in Torchlight but I'm not really familiar with how it translates in MH, because I think fire resistance and poison resistance may be important, but I'm not sure of the others. I'm still too new at this :)

Element is much more important in weapons and much less important in armor, as noname said. What is super-critical in armor is the kinds of skills that it will grant, which should match your playstyle.

For instance, i have a suit of armor for use with the Longsword, that because i only use the Longsword in the Arctic Region, grants resistance against Cold. I favor the Lance as well, and so i built a suit of armor that lets me play Lance more easily, by eliminating any damage received while blocking (whereas normally you take a little bit of damage even when you block an attack, the Agnaktor+ set lets me tank my way through everything except Uragaan's rollout and Jhen Mohran's belly flop. Even Agnaktor's dreaded laser or Ceadeus' sea-beam just bounce right off).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Thanks Khan, that helps. And well, I'm going online now.

I remember when I was a noob at MH3.... I don't even know what HR level I ended up at... MH3 takes awhile to get good at but once you finally realize what the hell is going on then you can become good at it. I looked up to EntilZha a lot in beginning even though he wasn't a pro. We both progressed through the game very nicely. Towards the end I was just as good as he was (if not better).  Switch axe was my favorite weapon followed by mace...   I had a killer switch axe that would shock trap (lightning damage) monsters with enough hits.  I would always call it out (I would also bring three trap tools to mix with either thunderbugs or nets along with my shock and pitfall trap).  I was the trap master!

Getting on now.
