Who's the most iconic video game character of all time?

Master Chief 72 80.90%

Marcus Phoenix 14 15.73%

Total:86

This poll is like asking the question;

What is a more enjoyable way to die?

A) Burned to death over an hour
B) Instantly by some poison

Then reporting people by a wide margin would rather poison themselves then live.

The only acceptable answer, the real answer is Mario. Sonic could have been there too but for mismanagement.

of the only 2 choices in your poll, certainly Master Chief is more iconic, but again, its like asking what do you like more being burned to death or picking up poop with your bare hands, then telling everyone people like picking up poop bare handed, over not picking up poop at all.

Nathan Drake isnt an icon. Hes to generic to be an icon at anytime in Sonys history. Most would struggle to draw him without nothing to copy.

Mariio, Mastercief, Kratos, Sonic are al drawable from memory.

Anyway. Kratos imo is much more of an icon for Sony. Drake looks like every other TPS caracter.

I agree that Drake isn't much of an icon, at least right now, but hardly for the reasons you mentioned. I've not seen many TPS characters look like Drake at all.

I mean generic.

Max Payne, any GTA character, Kane and Lynch etc. Any game that just has a normal human person is hard to portray as an icon. Especially in a world where the real icons are eiither faceless ( Masterchief ) or catooned up. For example Link although a person dresses radically different than jeans and tshirt. Or suit. Or jacket. Link looks iconic.

Marcus Phonenix is a bit different. Because the character stands out. Muscle overload. Thick armour, etc. Its alot more memorable and iconic.

I never remember characters that are plain after finising the game unitl the neext title is announced unless the character looked radically different from the guy next door.

What about Kratos? He looks as unique as it gets. And he is the only guy who managed to destroy the whole world. That should mean something.

Hell yes. Kratos is an icon for Sony. A radically design character. A character wich I can think of before I think of the game hes in.

You're telling me this guy isn't wasn't an icon back in the day?

I can guaranteed you that a relatively large amount of people would have recognized him. Even if they couldn't draw him

If it were all about looks, then Mario wouldn't even make the cut. No, it's about the character themselves, what they mean to their IP, and what they represent for their respective companies. In that regard, Master Chief, Mario, and Drake all complement their companies, because each signifies the company's strong suit.

What we think of them personally is irrelevant, but while Drake isn't as recognizable as the Chief or Mario, he still gets the job done. And as far as his looks, he's hardly generic.

i disagree. I think Mario looks widely different from the guy next door. Subtley yet vastly.

Difference between Drake and others like MC or Mario is you only think of Drake after you mention the game. With the others you often think of the character first, outside of the game ever being mentioned.

This isnt a personal feeling. Its actually how the human mind behaves. Looks unfortuantely are everything in society. And Drake just looks like some guy.

Hell no. He wasnt. The games were the icon. Not the character. Vastly different from Mario.

Nathan Drake from PS1 or 2? How is that possible?

Yes they would recognise him at the time they were playing the games. But, ask the majority now who that is? I have finished it and I had to look where he was from that instantly says everything about  this character.
