Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "no one is playing games on Wii" - Mike Goodman. "ROFFLE!!!" - My response

"And then another game will come out, and then play that for a few months, and then stop again. Isn't that... how games work? You buy a game, you play it for a while, then you stop until you buy another game. Shocking"

I love my CoD4 online play.... I'll stop playing that after i get a new game not before.

That's because you're a hardcore gamer and are not part of the majority.

Most people do not play games year round, every month, every day. That should be obvious. The suggestion that the Wii is somehow faulty because the average users aren't using it 365 days a year is preposterous.  Most people buy games, play them for a while, then stop until they see something else they like, and repeat the process.

I play WoW 4+ hours a day, on average. Do I mock people who do not invest that much time in WoW or any other game? Would I suggest that there is something wrong with a game or system that does not inspire people to play it 20+ hours a week?

Far from it, actually. I'm a huge nerd, and I applaud those who do not play games as obsessively as I (and from the sounds of it, you) do. Playing games like you and I do is not normal, and never will be.

Seriously, the usage cycles of the Wii that we're describing right here sound like the absolutely most healthy purchasing cycle I can imagine for games, and yet somehow we're criticizing it.

These people aren't playing the Wii constantly! We cry. Real games inspire people to play them all the time, with no long breaks between games!

Please, stop with this nonsense. Not only is it completely normal to play games for a while, then stop, then play new ones later, but I'd argue that it's a much healthier approach to gaming. I say that as  long time TFC/UT/WoW addict, and I fully include myself in the "unhealthy" category when it comes to gaming.

"How badly does the firm think Sony will beat its competitors? The Yankee Group is forecasting that Sony will sell 30 million PS3s over the next five years in North America, attaining a 44 percent market share. It sees Microsoft coming in second with 27 million units, or a 40 percent market share, which it will attain by "put[ting] significant price pressure on Sony during the PS3's lifecycle." As for Nintendo, the company predicts the Wii will keep the same roughly 16 percent market share it currently holds by selling 11 million Wiis over five years."

So the Wii is only going to sell 3-4 million more units in America? Got it. Thanks for the excellent analysis, Yankee Group.

That is really funny. They will sell at least 50 million Wiis over 5 years.

I bought my Wii to tell the time as I don´t have a clock in the house and I though that it would be cool to have a stationary clock so I turn on the TV and put in on the Wii chanel look at the time and shut it off. I don´t and never will use it for games.

I will buy the Wiifit as a scale to weigh my self as I don´t have a scale and it´s very usefull to be able to tell my own weight from time to time but I will never in my life think of using it for playing games, don´t really see the point of playing games.

Those numbers are quite amusing but realize that they are referring to North American sales only.  The PS2 hasn't sold 50 million in ~7.3 years in North America.  I'm not saying the Wii can't do 50m in NA alone in only 5 years but its far from an "at least" and much closer to a "would be lucky to".

these analysts wannabe make me sick

As the Wii continue to sell, they continue to hate it.
