Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which console has nerdiest followers?

PS3 fans. They love the specs of every little thing the PS3 has to offer. They are above hardcore because its not even the games, its the other functions and every little gadget that you can hook up and talk about and "zomg it can make toast".

I remember a guy at my last school was obsessed with PSP, all the functions. Nothing nerdier than trying to explain how cool homebrew and emulation is.

Nerd= Over weight person that shops at hot topic, can be seen wearing an anime shirt saying something along the lines of "Otaku" Has naruto gloves on, smells like they havent bathed in weeks, typically sloppy greasy hair. Travels in packs with other turds of society. Probly listens to Korn, distrurbed and slipknot. Has over 500 hours on WoW.

Hardcore gamer- IDK really? Has multiple consoles? Comes to game websites/ reads reviews in video game mags?

I used to listen Korn, lol...

But I think about myself like a bit-nerdy/ hermit person, who likes videogames, has a couple of consoles, one handheld and middle--range pc (With 4Gb of ram next month :P)...

Wait wait wait...it makes toast now!?!  When did they release that firmware update!?  Does it require a peripheral?  I hope not.  Man, once I download this it'll be so AWESOME!

This is pretty silly. I know nerds, jocks, men, women, whites, blacks, and asians with various consoles. What do you expect when the consoles each sell millions of units?

I'm always amazed that games still have a nerdy image now, when 360 and PS3 are loved by hardcore gamers, and when Wii is loved by new audiences and much of the old gaming audience. When I had my Wii in my dorm Freshman year literally every attractive girl my room mate and I knew would come to our room just to try to kick our asses in bowling or tennis or boxing. These boxes all have tremendous pull with large audiences. I know plenty of little kids growing up on Halo and GTA and I know people in their 30s who enjoy those games too. Demographics of gaming don't really fit anymore.

Are you saying we can't make generalizations, Source? Obviously you can take generalizations too far, but some generalizations -- such as "Females don't play the PSP much, but they do play the DS" is a valid generalization that is now supported by statistical data. I'd assume we could make similar generalizations about 360/Wii, although we don't have hard data to support that conclusion.

Not saying I disagree with your central premise -- I agree that this generalization in particular cannot be valid -- but I do want to point out that some generalizations do in fact apply and are reasonable and justified.

You didnt know that? It'll come in a firmware update sometime this summer. In japan they are already beta-testing the new add on that will allow it to become a grill, a new updated version of the George Foreman Grill. You just turn it on its side, unscrew the top, and there you have it. I grill to make any delicious meat. The best part, IT DRAINS THE FAT! Yep right into a cup that you can easily rinse off.

It is human nature to generalize. It is how we learn.  Hell, until we could prove things by hard scientific data, almost all the things we "knew" were really just assumptions.  Is fire hot?  Everytime I touch it it burns like hell, however centuries ago one couldn't prove that statement definitively one way or another.

Dude, once this hits I'll finally be able to get rid of my kitchen appliances.  I'll just sit in front of the TV all day long, never having to leave the room for anything except takin' a leak.

^LOL

Depends on how you want to think about it, each consoles got their fair share (but they are different):

Nintendo: Old school nerds, backing the Big N even if it produces crap (gamecube, anyone?).

Oh come on now, I'm tired of people calling the gamecube crap. The only thing crap about the gamecube was the third parties game selection. The system was a great system and Nintendo's games for it were great.

On topic, Nintendo may have the nerdiest fanboys, but Microsoft and Sony both have a nerdier fanbase. I say this because atm there are a lot of non-gamers playing wii. They just haven't been nerdified yet.

Based on my own experiences though I'd have to choose Xbox fans as the nerd champs. The only reason for this is because I can't get a guy at work to shutup about it. He likes to show me pics of his scores and crap on his cell phone. He wants me to come of for a "lan" party for some awesome "shooters". He doesn't look like a nerd, but this sorta thing seals the deal for me. That and I think people that are more into the tech of the system and those that purchase it for things such as HD are a bit more nerdy than those that can "live" without.

BTW, I'm definitely not a nerd.  Here's the proof:

Yeah that's right, I'm rad as hell.
