Forums - Sales Discussion - WW Hardware Shipments Update

When will the WW Hardware shipments page be updated? The last listing is in March 2007. Wasn't it supposed to be updated in September?

Around the Network

no i think it only updates in march(i think)

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Every six months it normally has to been updated..

I was wondering that as well.....

It is, along with many other things, on ioi's "to do" list.

I believe it wasn't done initially because of complications from Sonys fiscals, which have changed.
PS3 isn't so hard to sort out because only one 6month period is affected [5.5 'shipped' last fiscal] but the problem is what to do with PSP and PS2... afterall the 'shipment' numbers are likely much higher than what they should be. [Sonys old method counted manufactured models... now like Ninty/MS they count retail sales]

Around the Network

so we should expect an update in March?

^ well I dunno... there should have been one for September [its every half year] but it hasn't.

It will come eventually.... however the fiscals for this quarter are due soon, so you will be able to see recent shipment data then.

If by "retail sales" you mean sales TO RETAIL, then yes.

Sony used to count it when it left the factory and entered a warehouse. Now they count it when it leaves the warehouse for a retail store, which is the same as N and MS.

None of them report sales to customers.

I hope this gets updated too.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

^ yes I meant to retail... gah the English language can get so f^*%ed up.
I blame My Word Coach DS.

TWRoO,
But this is not a permanent problem. Sony cannot produce more than they ship every single quarter. After the launch period, the gap between manufactured and sold-to-retail should remain constant (if you ignore seasonality).

If for all this time it was okay to compare Sony's old figures with Nintendo's and Microsoft's figures, even though they weren't actually the same, why worry now that they finally became the same? I say ioi should just add the new figures to the old figures for Sony.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.
