Just because you don't like that a game focuses more on action than horror, it doesn't mean the quality has fallen.

FF at least is trying to be itself again, while RE is avoiding the survival horror genre, fascinated by the succes of Call of Duty

NO.  I want Final Fantasy to go back to the days when it would scare the shit out of me with horrifying stuff like this:

RE was never that highly thought of to begin with, so the height it can drop is limited.

FF has dropped to a level that I didn't even think was possible.

People criticized LO when it came out on the Xbox 360 as being too formulaic.....my god...they shouldn't have been so quick to criticize with the turd that FFXIII was....

FORMULAIC = GOOD!

I liked FF13 it was a very good game. I can see why people don't like it and its nowhere near as amazing as FF9. But for all its faults I enjoyed it.

I never liked the original RE, but I enjoyed RE5 and Revelations was the best RE I've played, it was awesome!

So in my opinion both Square & Capcom aren't as good as they were, but they can still churn out amazing games like Revelations.

Maybe expectations have become impossibly high?

I would say Resident Evil, 6 looks terrible. I enjoyed Resident Evil 5 and I loved FFXIII though.

I believe Resident Evil 4 has one of the highest metacritic rating of all time, better than any Final Fantasy game, let alone the previous 3 games in the series.

Both franchises have fallen from grace since they lost their creators. When Shinji Mikami left to Platinum games Resident Evil went down the drain. When Sakaguchi left, Final Fantasy became a shell of what it used to be.

Resident Evil. 5 was poo. ORC was ok ish but was always a straight up shooter. Revelations was a great comeback but now the series has bombed. Big time. Roll on 2015 when RE 7 comes out and hopefully it will go back to its roots.
