When Sony stops (strongly) supporting the PS3 and move to the PS4 the Vita will start selling more, i think 35/40 million is a little more realistic. And factors as 3DS exclusives and PS4 pricing will also have a say in Vita's final numbers.

Can you explain that for me please.

Of course my dear *wink* haha -- You buy a console because of the games right? so if you can play the games you like on a console that you own there's no point in buying another one, see where i'm going? When the PS3 runs dry of new games and the only option to play your favorite's (<-is that gramaticaly correct?) Uncharted, Resistance, God of War, etc. is the PS4 ohh what could you posibily do? get a PS4 right? ohh but it's too expensive, maybe later when i've saved enough... oh but you have another option, one that is almost the same quality as the ps3 and it has God of War, Uncharted, Gran Turismo and all your beloved Sony ip's, it's $200 cheaper and fits in your pocket mmm... See? -- What i think is Sony's plan, they are not worried for Vita's current horrible numbers and that's because they have a plan, the vita is a handheld designed to sell like one, you cannot expect that a $250 handheld sells when YOU offer a better product for less, it's obvious what the average consumer is going to choose, now when you have a $199 handheld that competes in price (with 3DS) and you are aware that there are better experiences but for more money (Next gen consoles -$300 to $450/500 probably) you as a consumer feel that is more ''fair'' because now the lines betwen inferior (handhelds) and superior (consoles) are visible in the form of price and performance. Right now if you want a handheld you get a 3DS ($170 a lot of good games and the Nintendo brand behid it) if you WANT to get a vita because what you've seen atracts you when you realize that you can do a better inversion for virtually the same money (PS3/360 - Huge library + 1 year of strong support -or- Wii U revolutionary concept + 6 Years of support) you do the most intelligent thing. When Vita's only competition is the 3DS things will be a lot easier it all will just depend on the consumer. -|--|- To put it simple, if you value your money is a bad desicion to buy a Vita right now, but the wait will be worth for Sony and for the consumer too. Or at least that's what i think.

PS4 is 2 years away and you're already dooming it?

With the recently announced 10 year plan and price drop next year, I see it doing 40million+ lifetime. 10 years is a very long time.

I would never say such a thing.

i think you guys are underestimating Sony's support of the system. I mean if Sony were to stop making games for vita it would die fairly quickly selling less than dreamcast probably. It all depends on how much effort Sony puts into it. If Sony will continue to release games for vita for the next 5-6 years it should be enough to create a baseline sales of about half of the PSP. To get more than that it will require 3rd party support, and not just ports.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I just have to say this is by far the worst prediction I've even seen. And based on what? Current sales? Without a price cut and a true holiday, (if you think December in japan is a true holiday you need to do some research.) I feel that in the end the vita will surprise many of you, 60 + is my guess of what i can see right now. I have faith, mostly in Sony's previous numbers, 100 million PS1's 140 PS2's, 64 million PS3's, 75 million PSP's. Sony has and excellent track record, better than both Nintendo and MS.

No and not really.

The Vita would take like 15 years to reach 60m, even if it's sales straighten out a bit. Again, all is probably going to be decided after the holidays, but as it stands Vita is not going to sell in the same ballpark as the 3DS.

Second, the thread is not about this, so let's leave it after the following. Sure, Playstation made quite a name for itself and it's brand has definitely been cemented among 'the greats', they do not have a 'better track record' than Nintendo. Ignoring the fact that the NES's marketshare was greater than the PS2's in their respective generations and the fact that the size of the market increased, the following is the real standings of either company's top selling devices:

PS2: 154 / DS: 153

PS1: 102 / GameBoy: 119

PSP: 75 / Wii: 97

PS3: 67 / GBA: 82

I'm not denying the Playstation brand made some stellar victories and pulled some impressive feats, this is only a black/white comparison. Of the top 5 best sold consoles though, 3 are Nintendo and 2 are Playstation: #1 and #4 (soon probably #2 and #5). Just to get this common misconception out of the way .

I can see your point, Price is high, not a big enough library, and it's not looking like it will change for sometime, but every new release adds to library, I think if it's supported by Sony & 3rd party, then it will do well, they need to start working on that, better late than never

Can Sony devote its developers to a console with a tiny install base, and so little software sales? If they had its pockets full, maybe, but in the economic situation it is nowadays, I don't think they can sustain the Vita by itself.

Some people still have the mentality of the PS2-start of PS3 era, Sony is now fighting for its life, they can't maintain non-profitable ventures.

Couldn't disagree with you more, I think it will reach 20 mil before 2015, I think 40-50 million is more along the lines of what it will reach.

I disagree.... I think that probably Sony has agreed to make more then 20 million Vitas via manufacturing and assembly contracts.

So I think they'll sell over 20 million, even if it means they have to sell them super cheap.
