I bet me getting banned for life your way off base. I fully expect the new Xbox to have 8 gb ram. This is not the first leak to say the dev kits have 12 gb ram 4 being extra for developers. In 2013 xmas release to go through to 2018-2020 8 gb ram is more than reasonable to be in te nextbox.

Sometimes people dont think. This console will be around in 2018 with no successor. Crytek already said last year the current gen PS3 and 360 could be pushed alot further with just more ram.

Ram is the key next gen.

In 2014-15 games on PC will be minimum requirement of around 6 gb in my opinion. With max settings requiring 8. 8 gb ram for a console that will have a lifespan of 2013 - 2020 is very very very likely. Unless its the wii u. Which IMO will be severely underpowered.

Actually the more reliable rumor is that there is 8GB of RAM in the alpha kits, with 4GB expected in the console.

Not the rumours Ive read. This is the 4th to say 12 gb ram.

Its called future proofing...

If the price is too high it could screw them in the first couple of years, but it could paid of in the long run, kinda like the PS3, and I honestly can see that happen because MS is in a very good financial position, they can take some losses very easily.

When It comes to financing, we know that MS are genuises at that.

There smart enough not to put it at 599 no doubt

Yay!!!

They are not going to release a console with thos kind of specs in 2013, and I don'y think they can wait until 2015. SO 2014 it is lol

Well 8gigs of ram dont matter if its crappy standard ram. Well lets see what the true specs will look like. <

BTW I am pretty sure a Kinect 2.0 will take quite a chunk of the ressources.

DDR4 most likely

btw MS just become develop member of HMC

I've read about it being 8GB of standard DDR3 RAM plus embedded DRAM on the GPU making for a quite... peculiar design.

I don't know why on Earth they aren't going to but 4GB of faster GDDR5 like Sony probably is going to do instead of having to sold all these memory nodes into the motherboard. That's going to be quite expensive.

Because HMC i guess

Kinect 2.0 is completly optional people.

If a developer wants to make full use of the raw power of the console it doesnt matter how much power Kinect requires, as they dont even have to touch Kinect if they dont want to

I could be wrong but wouldn't they dedicate part of the cpu to kinect? Otherwise the cpu will divide resources and that would just complicate matters. It would be easier to dedicate at least one core to it. Yes it give devs less to work with but if still sounds powerful for a leap even with several cores dedicated to other things like multimedia features. It depends on what cpu they are using though.

@ selnor I like your crystal ball buddy but third parties are driven by money and not power. You tend to forget that however powerful these systems are nintendo's games are more powerful. Mario sets the world on fire faster than the processor in this. If nobody buys the system then the tech in this will be like the tech currently in vita right now. Sitting there..... wasting potential..... hoping people use it...... flexing its muscles....... and being given the short end of the stick as well. We simply don't know enough about anything at all. It all comes down to how the public react.

So if they are driven by money is that why when the Wii was destroyig the 360 and PS3 in sales, the wii got no decent third party games?

No it was because it was underpowered and would require games to look like arse to be on the wii to. Effectively having 2 completely different teams making the same game with completely different engines.

I can see that a console with 1gb ram available for games ( Wii U ) against a console with 8 gb ram ( Even if 6 is available for games ) will be HUGELY underpowered and not be capable of games anywhere near the visuals etc that the other is. Especially if the GPU is top of the range 7 series, and an 8 core CPU.

Ram is more of a key than you may think. As its the sole thing Crytek, Epic, ID, Ubisoft etc have all been complaining about in PS3 and 360 for 2 years now.

Yes I predict that the Wii U as some nice ports in 2012, but by 2014-2015 will not have the franchises it needs again for people who give a damn about sweeping stories and epic visuals.

I said right at the off, the Wii U is underpowered with the specs all along. And that it wont have the games next gen I care about. So I wont be adopting yet again another Nintendo console.

Shame because the N64 was a beast and my faveourite balanced console of all time.

No it was because it was underpowered and would require games to look like arse to be on the wii to. Effectively having 2 completely different teams making the same game with completely different engines.

Because third parties were expecting the PS3 to win like the previous two gens, so they started developing games for PS3 at the beginning of the gen. Then when it didn't sell X360 saved their ass.

That and third parties don't want to put their games in the system with the strongest (sales wise) first party games (and compete with them) unless it's completely necessary.

Well I think it was part of microsoft's move into the market and how wii was perceived. Power did have a factor which is why it missed out on multiplats but I would like to point out that there are factors playing in nintendo's favor this time.

If you consider stuff like microsoft's relevance in japan and nintendo being merciless in that area you see its highly unlikely it will play like that this time. If I may point out hd game development was becoming the norm when wii got here but if japanese developers make healthy enough sales on nintendo (and xbox japanese support compared to gamecube proves they do) they won't be so eager to move on no? Final fantasy would easily sell enough on nintendo so why not build it for wii u and port to the others? I think securing games like monster hunter is nintendo's way of cruising to victory there before the others get here.

IF that happened why ignore them in favor of a system that doesn't even sell there? Sure put your games on 720 by all means but leaving wii u when nintendo could very well be dominating the market there? Suicide I say.

At worst I say this will be similar to gamecube which had some ok third party support. Not great but not bad either.
