Its called future proofing...

If the price is too high it could screw them in the first couple of years, but it could paid of in the long run, kinda like the PS3, and I honestly can see that happen because MS is in a very good financial position, they can take some losses very easily.

It seems reasonable enough though if the plan is to release in 2014 although this would undergo some major revisions from now until then. The 8 core CPU is most likely referring to an AMD Piledriver CPU unless they've got a prototype 8 core from Intel.

Other then that it's vague enough that it could be true and if it's false the site can just claim it's an early dev kit.

People wake up, if you want a "next gen" console for $299, then buy a WiiU and be happy. But if you want a huge graphics, physics, A.I., objects on screen leap, you need to accept that the next consoles will cost $500-$600+. I think that both 720 and PS4 will come with some kind of contract, that decreases the initial price to $200-$300, just like Apple does to IPhones.

Minimum system requirements for Far Cry 3 are 4GB of RAM (reminder that both Win7 and Win 8 use less than 512MB of RAM)
Epic, Crytek and Square asked for lot of memory. Crytek specifically asked for minimum of 8GB (and I would bet Epic wants that too, them being one that pushed Microsoft to increase RAM in 360)
As for 8 cores - bulldozers have 8 cores @95W TDP - if they use GPU similar to 7970m (basically mobile downclocked 7870 with TDP of 75-100W) I don't see problem with system's TDP, so why not...

Um this isn't PC ram this console Ram.  Console ram is customized and doesn't need 4 ram because it doesn't have to do 3-4 things the same at time while runing the game. PC runs general purpose like ram not like console. Please give me quote were Square/Creak asked for 8gb ram because I know your bsing because that would be completely overshot. The most they would as for is 3-4 ram because consoles don't need to run multiple apps at a time. When people say need 4ram to run ultra on fry  Cry what your saying is that much PC ram not console. Trying running skyrim with 2 gb ram with xbox360 chip on a pc at normal setting you will be lucky to get 10 frames per second and that's 4 times the ram.

Regarding  GPU please link to the GPU Specfic you think it will have in and then link me to Core you think it will have. Then I will show why it will not work

Thanks to Andrespetmonkey for posting those links, so I won't be posting them again (I thought that was pretty much well known, considering how much developers have been vocal about it)...why developers want so much memory, I don't know, but obviously there is some really good reason. I'm not game developer, so I don't understand the tech behind their new engines, but I'm kinda inclined to trust them when they say they want 8GB, and given previous history I think that Microsoft just might listen.

As for FarCry 3, I was giving it as example of what some of  new PC games will have as MIN requirements specs - FarCry 3 hi-performance specs ask for 8GB and 7970/680 cards....as for Skyrim, it runs on HD 6450 (which if I'm not mistaken is even less powerfull than PS360 GPUs) with 2GB system RAM, and gives some 25-30fps on medium settings.

Regarding GPU, rumoured performance puts it around 7850-7870 territory, so let's say something like 7970m could be good candidate (or something equivalent), and for CPU I honestly have no idea, but for the sake of exercise let's go with FX-8100...

Sounds plenty powerful. MS is going to go the power hungry route next gen and this would certainly match that

The specs look pretty sweet. These upcoming consoles are going to be prospectively be around in the year 2020. So they need to pack in what they can for them to be atleast relevant by than.

Looks legit.

Not really though.

Would be wayyyyy overkill. I mean, come on. What is all this power supposed to do? They want to have different textures on each individually modeled pebble on the ground?

If they can keep the power consumption at a reasonable level, keep the system cool in a small case, and take out the stupid requirement to pay to play online, then sounds cool, otherwise, hell no since I will always have a PC.

I would think it has to do with 2 things.

1. Microsoft and many sources have indicated that they want to take over the living room. If they are going to be not only do video games, but integrate TV as well they are going to need a powerful system.

2. Kinect 2.0 will most likely take a lot to run if they wish to do it properly.

Kinect 2.0 is completly optional people.

If a developer wants to make full use of the raw power of the console it doesnt matter how much power Kinect requires, as they dont even have to touch Kinect if they dont want to
