Forums - General Discussion - Cloverfield Rocks!

Y'know the weird thing. When the first trailer popped up in Transformers and all we got was "1.18.08" everybody was psyched. We had little to no idea what was going on or what the monster was or where it came from.

After having seen the movie nothing's changed on that front......

WOW! OMG!! I just saw this movie, and holy crap, it totally exceeded my expectations, which were pretty high to begin with, considering I saw a preview for this almost a year ago and have been looking forward to it ever since!!! This is by far the best movie I have seen in a long, long, LOOONG time (from an entertainment perspective)!!!

YOWZA!

i loved it too,the only complaint i have is they left the movie with plenty of plot holes....sequel?

What we do get is a lot of unanswered questions (what else from JJ Abrams?). Given the way this universe has already expanded through the viral campaign (such as Slusho), and that such details barely impact on the film, I suspect there is a plan to expand this story. Cloverfield is almost a prologue to what may end up a kick ass giant monster franchise (though old Clover* himself seems to lack the charm of Gojira, Gamera, Kong, or even Jurassic Park's T-Rex). The question then is do they continue to approach it in novel ways or do they take a more traditional approach?

If you look into the campaign, there's actually a lot of information about the movie that you otherwise wouldn't know. Slusho apparently has a much larger connection to everything than the movie lets on. Oh, and don't worry if you haven't seen it, that's not a spoiler. Slusho's barely even mentioned in the movie. There's a pretty good summary of the two add campaigns here:

Anyways, I just saw it tonight with four other people. Three of us liked it, the other two didn't. I consider the three of us who liked it bigger movie buffs than the other two though. If the camera doesn't bother you it's a pretty enjoyable experience.

Star Trek fans are treated to a teaser for the new film getting the J.J Abrahams treatment.

Also stick around for the end credits!

I want to see it (and I love Lost!), but I can't bring myself to spend $15AU (around $12US) on a ticket - and I would have to see it with 2-3 other people as well (total cost around $50US) for a 74min movie.

Will wait for DVD I think...

It's a really good monster movie. That's all I've got to say about it. If you like monster movies, you'll love it; if not, probably not.

Also, the new Star Trek trailer made me giddy. I'm not a very big "trekkie" or anything, but I've always loved the movies - even the bad ones (Star Trek 5, anyone?)

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
