Forums - Politics Discussion - Why should we even waste our time voting for President anymore?

Just start voting for other parties than the biggest one.

Why do you guys even have only two parties?

Surely a broader political spectrum is not a bad thing?

At this time that would be pointless as well because they would not be elected. So again, why even bother?

At this point it is too late in the game. Half of America thinks Romney is a Rich Jerk, and half of America thinks that anyone other than Obama could do a better job. So one or the other will be voted for.

The rest our just small blips in the running that may or may not ever even be seen by most Americans.

They won't stay small blips if more people vote for them :P

Who cares
The only thing that is changing is the name of the most hated person in the world
The USA will always do what they want - Buying weapons, making everyone mad, stacking their dept and stealing stuff.Doesn't matter if it is Obama,Mickey Mouse or someone else.
Its always the same and every sane person knows this - But well there are even people who believe in santa or the easterbunny.

lol i remeber reading an article about this  in a newspaper here. It was along the lines of  "Do we care who gets elected president in the us? - No, both would be shit  anyway"

I'm not a pessimist so I think the government is actually trying to help us. I won't vote for the "lesser of two evils", I'll vote for the candidate with a similar mindset as my own knowing that 12 months from now every campaign promise will be out the window. Both candidates say they will decrease the deficit by x many dollars and so on but the government isn't a one man show. I'll I need to know is that the president will try to guide the country in a direction I agree with.

In 2010 a third party received 36.7% of the vote for Colorado governor. The republican candidate only received 11.1% while the democratic candidate won with 50.7%. It was a strange election with the republican runner up going independent but it shows nothing is set in stone.

Getting rid of the electoral college or doing some strange setup won't change the results of an election. In my opinion the best solution is getting three votes instead. This would really break up the two party system and give independents a chance.

P. S. Neither candidate is the "anti-christ" as many people seem to believe. For every American that hates what Obama is doing and is getting screwed over by it, there is an American that couldn't be happier. Sadly the president can't please everyone.

I'd say you should listen to mrstickball.

And, after all. the possibility of increasing third parties' political influence sure is better than just watching republicans and democrats taking turns shitting on your country.

The Presidents have been bought out a LONG time ago. It means nothing.

America is crashing and burning, and there is nothing Americans can do about it. We did it to ourselves.

Obama is absolutely awful though, period. Remember when he said Bush was unpatriotic for $4 trillion of debt in his 8 years of Presidency? Obama has racked up $7 trillion in 4 years! And people still care for this moron?

You are entitled to your opinion, but that's an extremely unfair criticism of Obama.  I don't care who would have been president, whether it was the best possible president you could have asked for or worst, no one could have prevented an increasing debt.  We are running on a deficit, so of course the debt increased.  There's also inflation going on, and the bailout also contributed to that increase of debt.  If we didn't do a bailout, where would we be now?  Do you even want to think about that?  I don't think you understand a single thing about how politics works if you believe the president had any power over our increasing debt these past 4 years.

Actually anyone who has any idea on economics knows how to save America.

- End illegal immigration

- Tariffs on foreign goods

- A service economy can't sustain itself - we need to be a PRODUCTIVE economy. Bring back the factories!

- Protectionism

- Cut spending, raise taxes

Everything Obama has criticized Bush for, Obama has done - why? They both work for the same people. They are no different.

The people in power KNOW they are destroying the U.S. while they reap the benefits. America could be in great shape now, but will die a sad, slow, death.

No, vote for a 3rd party instead! Depending on the state, it could really make a difference. You have the Constitution, the Greens and the Libertarians out there. Surely one of them is up to your liking?

Though I fear the USA will have to pull a Greece so people can wake up from their political stupor. Well, it kind of worked there.

You seem to not be able to realize that the President doesn't have the power to make all those decisions on his own.  A lot of those decisions are also unpopular, and ending illegal immigration would not necessarily make us in a better economic state due to how much production the illegal immigrants give us.  They take a lot of jobs normal Americans wouldn't take.  However, there's no sure way to tell exactly what would happen, as this would mostly play as a part of psychology.  Bringing back the factories also has many other issues that involve things like poor work conditions, and a lower HDI.

You should also realize that our budget is pretty tight, and cutting spending somewhere means taking away something for someone out there.  Raising taxes is an unpopular decision that also falls more into the Senates hands rather than the Presidents.  In fact, almost all economic decisions rests with the Senate (and partially the House).  Since Congress is split, this means Obama has less influence over what happens with these things than a President normally would have.

You vote because you can, feel entitled to, feel responsibility to, or have an actual strong preference for party or candidate.

I voted for Obama because I believed in his sincerity.

I think I will do so again because his sincerity hasn't changed, his execution has focused on things he pledged to work on, he has repaired a ton of damage done by Bush Jr. administration, the work isn't completed, and there isn't an adequate challenger party or candidate. I also don't want any part of the current Tea Party vocal rule republican party in office... they are too radical in my view.

I have no idea how to convey this to you without insulting you, but I will try.

Obama's sincerity? A cunning tongue is all it took to fool you into believing in his campaign in '08 and I cannot fault you for that, but he has a record now or saying one thing and not delivering. E.g. Cut the deficit in half, end the war (We still have 68,000 troops over there), improve the economy, and create jobs.

Upon analysis of those listed promises, he has failed to deliver any of them. Job creation is abysmal at 500,000 NET non-farm jobs. Deficit, wellm he actually did the opposite of what he promised. Improved economy? Nope, Unemployment is still 8% and the third round of quantitative easement has been released, not to mention the second credit rating downgrade.

Stop voting along "sincerity" at this point your focus should be entirely devoted to jobs and the economy which Obama has failed to improve.

Voting never mattered, since it is our represenatives that vote in the president.

Because it does no harm? Yes, 250 million other people are also voting, but by joining them you are contributing in some small way to the candidate that you want to win.

The only two wasted votes are a vote you don't make, and a vote for a candidate you don't agree with.
