Forums - Politics Discussion - Why should we even waste our time voting for President anymore?

The Presidents have been bought out a LONG time ago. It means nothing.

America is crashing and burning, and there is nothing Americans can do about it. We did it to ourselves.

Obama is absolutely awful though, period. Remember when he said Bush was unpatriotic for $4 trillion of debt in his 8 years of Presidency? Obama has racked up $7 trillion in 4 years! And people still care for this moron?

Here's the thing:

If enough people vote 3rd party, and a two-party candidate loses because of it, some majorly bad things will happen to the said party. They will recognize that a significant amount of voters are dissatisifed with the platform.

They will have to do one of two things:

1) Adopt the 3rd parties' platform in some areas to cater
2) Cede that the party has become irrelevant (Whigs), resulting in the 3rd party becoming a major party
3) Keep fighting, and become a 3rd party themselves.

Its worth it to vote 3rd party, because of any vote, it sends a message. It tells the politicians that they've screwed up. This has happened in both parties when long standing incumbents have been voted out. That's a start, but it needs to end in more parties being on the table. In Ohio, we had 3rd party candidates receive 5% of the vote in many races. That is a good start. But if it continues, it'll end up destroying the 2 party system.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Vote.

Stop making excuses. There is a clear choice this time. An incumbent who promises the World and delivers nothing versus a business man with a proven track record of professional success in job creation, budget-balancing, and ensuring profitability.

It may be a lesser of two evils again, but if you do not vote you are essentially voting to retain the sitting P.O.T.U.S.
I implore you to seek out the candidate you feel will best suit your own and the Nation's interests.

Edit: At poster above. A vote for the third party is also a vote for the incumbent. Stop wasting your vote.

There's always agorism. If you're not working inside the system, you'll have to work outside it.

We shouldn't. Would-be presidents ought to have to knife fight for it.

If only we had a Run-off voting system.

Just start voting for other parties than the biggest one.

Why do you guys even have only two parties?

Surely a broader political spectrum is not a bad thing?

You are entitled to your opinion, but that's an extremely unfair criticism of Obama.  I don't care who would have been president, whether it was the best possible president you could have asked for or worst, no one could have prevented an increasing debt.  We are running on a deficit, so of course the debt increased.  There's also inflation going on, and the bailout also contributed to that increase of debt.  If we didn't do a bailout, where would we be now?  Do you even want to think about that?  I don't think you understand a single thing about how politics works if you believe the president had any power over our increasing debt these past 4 years.

Thing is Obama racks up all this debt trying to solve a crisis that cant be solved in a term (middle east crisis).

But overall, to denounce voting is to denounce democracy, and all the things that come with it, including your free speech that would get you killed in other countries.
