Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why Halo 4 may be the savior of First Party Titles for MS..

As everyone should know, Microsoft is the weaker of the three major gaming companies when it comes to new IPs and exclusives. While Halo, Forza, Fable, and Gears are great IPs; Sony has the more diverse library of exclusives (Not saying better, only saying they have more exclusives, sorry for the confusion). Don't get me wrong, I love Halo and Gears as much as the next guy, but they can't go on forever. Microsoft doesn't like taking risks with the Xbox 360, which may explain the lack of new developers and games. However, if 343 succeeds with Halo 4, then Microsoft may start signing more developers for them. Halo 4 could be the savior of the exclusive party for Microsoft.

What do you guys think? Am I just spewing out crap like a man after Taco Tuesday at his local Taco Bell, or am I actually on to something?

Thanks for reading.

Okay, I had to edit because I wasn't using the right words, sorry everyone.

They cant compete ? haha

i rather have Halo than any other Sony game. But thats my opinion and for me.

MS >>> Sony >>>>> Ninty.

What do you mean by "compete"? MS exclusives may be slightly fewer in number but they sell more by a lot. Halo 4 alone will probably outsell all of Sony's 2012 exclusives combined.

Sorry, I suppose I could of worded it better. I meant that in the number of exclusives. I think Halo is one of the best FPS on consoles, while Gears redefined the TPS genre. However, Uncharted for the Playstation is downright amazing and makes a lot of games look like cardboard cut outs.

Anyways, They can't compete with numbers, not quality. Both have amazing exclusives, but (we both know) that Sony has the upperhand in the number of exclusives.

Meant by numbers. Not quality, sales, etc. I fixed the OP .

Depends... Kinect has alot of exclusives and XBLA.

like someone else said i would take MS exclusives over what Sony is offering. Uncharted hated it, Heavy Rain i actually enjoyed, God of War hated it (although i might give it another try), Twisted Metal, Starhawk, Ratchet and Clank etc.... have either been run into the ground or aren't very good to begin with. Infamous never played that one so i can't comment on that one. Then when i look at the few big exclusive's the the xbox does have Halo, Gears, Forza, and Fable the only one i have enjoyed to a great extent would be the Halo franchise epic story, awesome characters, and a huge universe with unlimited potential. Gears i hated, Forza isn't bad i just don't like racing games, and Fable has gotten progressively worse with each iteration. When i look back at my opening statement i guess i don't enjoy either MS or Sony First party line up well at least the big titles. Tales of Graces f on the PS3 is awesome and Tales of Vesperia on the 360 was great. Hmmmm well 3rd party has the best games so who even cares about first party except HALO.

I think you'd be surprised if you looked at the full list of published titles.

Total Exclusives (Acording to Wikipedia):

Sony Published Exclusives: 65

MS Published Exclusives: 73

Source

Here are the lists. I'm sure there are a few descrpencies or mistakes. But even if the 360 list had several mistakes it's pretty clear to me that the PS3 does not have a substantial advantage in published games.

lol the list posted by @kain_kusanagi is not first-party... just because Microsoft or Sony published some third-party game doesn't make it first-party.

MS First-party: Halo, ilomilo, Forza Motorsport, The Gunstringer, LocoCycle, South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play!, South Park: Tenorman's Revenge, Avatar Kinect, Kinect Adventures, Kinect Fun Labs, Kinect Sports, Fable, Black & White, Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata, Perfect Dark, Kinect Sesame Street TV, Joy Ride.

Thats all... Gears is not first-party.

Sony First-party titles: Ape Escape, Siren, LocoRoco, Patapon, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo, Tourist Trophy, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Crash Bandicoot, Kinetica, God of War, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, MLB: The Show, ModNation Racers, Syphon Filter, Resistance: Retribution, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Sly Cooper, Infamous, SingStar, EyeToy, PlayStation Home, MediEvil, Killzone, World Rally Championship, MotorStorm, LittleBigPlanet.

Plus Sony have second-party games (Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Spyro The Dragon, Daxter, Starhawk, Twisted Metal, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, etc etc etc)... Microsoft not.

I just want to point out the fact that your personal tastes have nothing to do with publishers being able to compete with each other. You are not the only consumer by a long shot. :P
