Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 vs 360 Always Static Sales Gap

Simple situation, probably a complex answer.. I'm not trying to rustle any feathers here

But how can the PS3 be outselling the 360 by 25-35k every week but always, always have a 1.9 million gap?

All year long! Static, unmoving, never changing gap in sales between the two consoles. One would assume that the sales gap is only changed when official updates from the Big 3 dictate. But thats just an assumption based on the static 1.9 million gap.

I hate to bring out the elephant in the room.. but  there it is.

Thoughts?

Early this year... the ps3 hit the 1.9 gap but then there was a HUGE adjustment on 360 sales which made it 2.2? again.

It just went down from there yet again. Theres probably minor adjustments since then that keep the 1.9 gap in its place.

Yay!!!

The gap was actually bigger at the beginning of the year, plus X360 was undertracked last year, which doesn't have an effect on the current weekly but still made an impact on the total gap.

The gap was about 5 or 6 million when I started keeping an eye on it. down to 1.9 over the years. the generation is winding down and so will the change in gap, but it will continue to close none-the-less.

The gap between the 2 consoles is really the most exciting part of this generation (sales wise) for me. Its amazing the competition and just how close both systems are in sales.
Remember when the gap was over 9 million?

If Microsoft reveals their next console this fall, it could hurt 360's holiday sales. And it definitely would affect 360's 2013 sales. Just look at what happened to Wii's sales after Wii U was revealed. I have no doubt that 360 will outsell PS3 this holiday no matter what the situation is, but the gap will be smaller if Microsoft's next console gets revealed.

I think Sony has made it pretty clear that they won't be releasing a new console any time soon. PS3 has tons of potentially great exclusives next year (The Last of Us, GoW: Ascension, and Beyond: Two Souls), and Sony keeps saying that they'll continue to support PS3 until 2015. As a result, I think Sony fanboys will finally get their wish in 2013: PS3 finally outselling 360.

As a 360 fan, I'm ready to move on to Xbox 720 after Halo 4. As a PS3 fan, I'm not yet ready for PS4.

P.S. I'm trying to be neutral here. It's not my intention to piss off either Microsoft or Sony fanboys.

I'm really curious to see what happens this holiday season. I have a feeling xbox won't sell as much as they have in previous years while ps3 might sell more than in the past.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

I'm sure adjustments will be made 'round the house early next year.
