Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Super Slim: 'Very high interest' from Xbox 360 owners, claims Sony

The 'Super Slim' PlayStation 3 has attracted "very high interest" from Xbox 360 owners looking to pick up a second console, Sony has stated.

Speaking with GameSpot, hardware marketing man John Koller said that those picking up the new model PlayStation 3 next week were "most likely... not a PS3 owner yet".

"We have seen a very high interest rate from Xbox 360 consumers wanting to purchase a second console," he continued. "We've held up Uncharted 3 as our flagship product over the last year and it's a good opportunity for those types of consumers to come over and own a second console in their household."

The new model console features a slimmer design and is set to be bundled with Uncharted 3 in the US. Europeans, meanwhile, will be able to pick up the hardware with a copy of FIFA 13.

Koller likens the interest in the console to that of the Xbox during the previous generation.

"We saw the same kind of thing happen in reverse during the PS2 years when a lot of PS2 consumers said they wanted to get an Xbox because of Halo and some other games," he continued. "So we think the strategy works and it's a good one."

Sony is set to continue supporting PlayStation 3 for "the next few years", Koller reaffirmed, before promising an "incredible lineup" of software.

The Super Slim PlayStation 3 goes on sale across the UK next Friday, September 28. We got to grips with one yesterday. "

Where did they get that from?

This is such a BS press release. You can't raise the price of an item and think the public will care anymore. Least leave the price the same with the redesign. Least that makes sense. But the most sense comes from a price drop with a cost saving PS3 redesign. You can't tell the average consumer that this is somehow better than the past PS3, it costs more! That's all they really know. So what, a few GB's more of storage. That cost Sony like 5 bucks. Bunch of nonsense. The average consumer just knows the consoles and price. This just causes confusion.

Seriously how would they even know this? Dumb statement in my opinion. This late in the generation people are bound to have multiple consoles

Exactly.  I love Sony's exclusive games but I'm also losing faith in Sony as a business.  They need to step it up with all the products they make before they go too far under to where they can't recover.

LOL.

I am sorry. But I decided to run out and upgrade the hdd in my PS3 phat.

I am still 50-50 on whether I will purcahse the super slim as a backup PS3, I am kind of leaning towards slim 1.0

haha yeah because we all know, first we all do purchasing a console, we tell the company producing it or the retailer that we already have the competitions product
