regardless of how stupid the pricing is, i think there will still be a decent boost.

IMO Sony messed up last year...there was no need for a price cut last year. The system was selling well and it would have continued to sell well given its momentum irrespective of price. Not only does that price cut make a price cut now less possible it also added to the bad financials as sony made a point to mention the price cut as a factor for losses.

Now Sony have new models and are probably not in any position to make a cut. And a price cut this holiday in conjunction with the new model would have been more effective. It would also be a way to combat the WiiU sales.

In saying all this i still don't get the point of the 12GB model now....the only explanation i can come up with is that Sony have gone and increased the price because of their financial situation.

And as for dominating the holidays...i would say no. When last has a single console completely dominated the holidays? Sony/MS were probably tied last year, same thing happened the previous year. Before that the Wii and 360 were battling it out. It was only about 3 -4 years ago where we saw the Wii dominate sales. I think its gonna be a looong time before we see another console completely dominate.

Releasing less content for the same price = Releasing same content for more price

1. If by consoles you mean strictly home consoles, then I don't think that's a very relavent metric. The 3DS is a dedicated gaming console that will still dominate the dedicated gaming console market for the rest of the year; and that includes the PS3.

2. Why would you ask the second question in your post: "With the new, sexy, smaller PS3 do you think it has what it takes to finally come out on top in a holiday season?" if you didn't want it answered? I answered it, the Wii U will be the hottest star this holiday season.

People seem to like redesign of gadgets. I would love to see what they do even if there is no price cut this year.

Again, that's not my problem. It's Sony's problem. They're not getting my money now. SImple. I'm not bitching and moaning, I'm just saying I'm not gonna spend more for less. I don't care who you blame.

Xbox has got ahead every year this generation over the Christmas season, I don't see it being any different this year. But we'll see

It's clear for me that Sony is releasing the new PS3 slim to increase their profits, not to fight Wii U arrival in November.

Sony and Microsoft don't think fighting for marketshare is important anymore.

Who cares about the new model besides sony fans in the first place?

If you were going to buy a ps3 it's not going to be because of the slim.
