Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U won’t make Achievements Mandatory for all games.

This is the perfect way to do it. Some games are built around the concept of achievements better than others, and nothing annoys me more than:

1) *Starts new file* = Achievement unlocked!
2) *Gets through tutorial* = Achievement unlocked!
3) *Gets to second level* = Achievement unlocked!

Those aren't achievements, they're ways for insecure gamers to feel better about themselves with bloated gamerscores. The other 99.99% of gamers don't give a crap about these stupidly placed achievements.

Yes! These achievement systems are dumb as hell.

But I fear some developers will include this in their games anyway.

Just curious, but why would you fear that? If they added trophies/achievements to a game what is the big negative? I have never understood this sentiment.

Having them hurts nobody, meanwhile by not having them it could potentially turn people away.

Current gaming laptop specs:

Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.3-3.3GHz w/6MB Cache, 6GB DDR3 RAM (@1600MHz), NVIDIA GT650M 2GB GDDR5/Intel HD4000, 500GB SATA 7200RPM HDD, 1366x768 WLED Display, Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.

Currently Playing: Metro 2033 (SO AWESOME!)

                                  Soul Sacrifice (Vita)

I honestly could not care less.

If it means less annoying pop-ups during games then good.

This is the Game of Thrones

Where you either win

or you DIE

For you guys wanting an achievement like system, it's there. It's simply up to developers to utilize it or not.

Did some of you even read the first post before replying?

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Good. Mandatory standardized achievements are a silly idea anyway.

Check out Ohga Shrugs!

Yeah it sounds to me like kinda how valve does it?, as in its up to the developer to use it or not.

Anyway i dont know why some of you wouldnt buy the Wiiu cos of this. what did you guys do before the 360 made achievements part of the console instead of the game??.

To me it makes no sense too... just a reminder that your left your game incomplete, which hurts sometimes.

But, oh well, if it's that important, devs will just copy the other systems achievements for the game and there you go.
I just hope there's a way to hide the pop-in.

I predict Kid Icarus: Uprising will sell at least one million world-wide until the end of october 2012. Result: I was wrong.

Bet with ninjablade for 1 month avatar-control: PS4 vs. WiiU first 5 weeks global sales according to vgchartz. ninja blade says PS4 wins, I say WiiU wins.

Bet with platformmaster918 and ethomaz about PS3 overtaking Wii in total sales.

Bet with mazty: He wins if WiiU sells less than 24M lifetime, I do if it sells more.

Bet with Lawlight: How many PS3 will Sony ship over 2013. He wins if that are more than 11 million, I win if it are less.

Some acheivements are ok in my book, but overall uneccessary since people will be too focused on acomplishing that little part in the game and forget about what the true purpose of playing the game...Having fun. But thats just me. Highscores are are kinda similar but games like Tetris are made for that.
