Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: Wii U will sell under 40 million units

I will still say it's goes past 40 million. Just not much. 45 million maybe. (Despite predictions of 25 million max lifetime which would make it Nintendo's second lowest selling system, third if you include Virtual Boy.)

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

Looks at Wii U lineup...
2D Mario
Dragon Quest
Monster Hunter
Black Ops 2
Assassin's Creed 3
Wii Fit
Lego City Stories
Just Dance

(probably...)
Smash Brothers
3D Mario
Zelda
Metroid

Yeaaah.. somehow I don't see only 40 million sales happening, sorry..

80-90 million IMO

And who are these 80m - 90m people going to be exactly??

What kind of question is that?

And I'll man up, that was a dumb prediction, and I was way off the mark. At the time, I did not assume Nintendo was going to up and abandon the Wii audience/Wii philosophies and regress so heavilly back to the Gamecube style niche games. As of now, seeing what I've seen, I'd say anywhere from 30-50 million, depending on if Nintendo decides to return to the Wii/ oldschool type games that made the Wii the success it was.

By the way, was this REALLY necessary to bump?? This was a harmless prediction, it's not like I was trying to rip on the other consoles or something. And considering how the Wii U's predecessor performed, could you really blame me for this opinion.. Way to rub salt in the wound. And now I'm sure I'm gonna hear it from other people calling me out for this, now that you've brought it to the surface. I'm sure you've never been wrong in your life..

Thanks, guy! I really appreciate it.

I'll admit, I didn't check the timestamp when entering (I didn't bump the thread tho) and thought your prediction was new.

It's obvious now Nintendo isn't getting that casual base on side as you agree now, hence the question.

Well the funny thing is... It will still sell more than 40 million. I predict 45m wii U. 45 Xboxone. 55 ps4.

Unfortuantly for those of you disagreeing with me I have a rediculous accuracy when it comes to these things mostly to do with the fact that I see real numbers every day and dont carry any personal feeling into numbers.

And anyone saying 40 million or less are very wrong. Casuals are the ones doing much of the current pre-orders

Golden post.

That's not a fact...

A fact is something that is true. That's a true statement, so it is a fact.

That's not a fact :(

To be honest this thread is more depressing than amusing. The hype for next gen and the Wii U was so strong back then. Makes me worried for both new systems.

Whats golden about it? It will probably still sell 40 million.

Recently you've been saying practically identical things about the PS4 and XBONE. It's not necessarily a good or bad post, but it adds a ton of perspective to your recent statements.

difficult predict, need another year to see the strong line up of wii u for the next year and how well will be received,
also third party support is a real concern, lets just hope wii u sales enough for the third parties to be interested in the machine

Whats wierd are the people already discounting this.

1. The console is still massively over priced for Nintendo hardware

2. It has a pretty awful software lineup with no stand outs like a new Zelda, Mario Kart, or Smash Bros

3. Nintendo has dobe an awful job marketing their system.

People were predicting huge doom during 3ds furst year as well. Its still way to early to discount any potential sales for Wii U.

And for those of you personally invested in this stop being wierdos. Its interesting talking numbers, hardware and trends but theres so much personal FUD in this forum its pathetic

Im confused? Im not wrong about any of this so far?

Going by the numbers Wii U had a very strong launch which reflects my earlier opinion. The system started posting dreadful numbers after the holidays but its launch was excellent.

I figured Nintendo wouldve handled their console better and been in a stronger spot by now sure but last I checked Wii U still may very well do 40 million
