thanks to Steam I forgot that "HD Console games" are actually 60 dollars.

Erm, there are still Steam games at $60 too (for example Skyrim, Dishonered, Black ops 2) for a digital download only. Steam has been getting slightly better with new releases for $50. Still a lot considering their cutting out the entire retail distribution channel and no console fees. The reason I never buy anything that's not on sale from Steam. There are also plenty of $50 and $30 titles for the HD consoles.
I hope Sony and MS don't see this price correction as a reason to raise theirs to $70 per game.

$60 is in line with PS360 games but who wants to pay more?

Although it is no big deal, I think it would be a neat idea if games were priced in accordance to their budget. So NSMBU at like 30-40 and Halo or Mario Galaxys' at like 60-70. And all that third party crap on Wii like 10-20. That being said, upon writing this now I realize this would actually encourage a market of consumers who will buy the second rate rip off shit and destroy the market for quality titles.... so perhaps I take it back.

I think the bruhaha is about the fact that several games are ports of existing games in the launch line-up and for those to be priced at $60 with no real benefit seems a bit overpriced.

Nintendo defined themselves the entire generation as a mass market company and now they are behaving the other way. WiiU isn't even much more powerful than the Xbox360, I don't get why can't they charge $50 for their games. If this is true this may be the first generation I don't buy games day one, not because I can't but because I don't want! I supported the Wii buying many games, specially third party at $50, and turns out the games weren't that good. I won't be making the same mistake at $60.

As disolitude says, is better to wait a month for the INEVITABLE price cut anyway............. thinking about it, I may wait a year to buy the WiiU, just as the 3DS if the bad news continue I can see a price cut in the near future.

$60 is too much no matter the console. I don't even know how you can classify one game for $60 as "very cheap".

Yeah, games in the past cost more. Who cares? These are different times.

He has too much money to spare i guess.

Answer: No. Only a few games are worth more than 50 bucks. Doesn't matter if it Wii U or whatever else.

I guess it's even higher.. Only 1st party games will be at 60£, games like Mass Effect 3 or Rayman Legends are for 70, which I find a lot expensive especially when we see that these games are already available on PS360 for just 40£ now..

MS and Sony can increase it to $100 if they want. If the market cannot sustain the price. The games would drop even faster than they drop now merely weeks after they come out. This gen the 360/PS3 games have dropped in price much faster than ps2/xbox days. A month and half later the game is down to $25-30 bucks. So let's see what they do.

60$ seems OK.

It's funny how pricing Wii U games at $60 is too much because it's "old technology," yet no one questions the $60 price for 360 games. Old tech my ass.

The problem here is one of perception. Everyone has grown accustomed to Nintendo's games costing $50 while games on other consoles cost $60. This has fostered the perception that Nintendo's games (or games on Nintendo consoles) are inherently less valuable than PS3 or 360 games. Subconsciously we have started to view Nintendo as the Toyota to Sony and Microsoft's Lexus. Nintendo might be releasing a new model, but that doesn't make it a "luxury product" like the PS3 and 360. With higher prices comes the perception of greater quality, and some people are having a hard time accepting that Nintendo's games are just as valuable as PS360 games.

Don't worry, when Sony and Microsoft reveal that their next consoles' games will cost $70+, everything will go back to normal.
