Forums - Sales Discussion - FIFA 13 Demo Breaks Series Records, Pre-Orders Through the Roof

Tagged games:

If the public’s appetite for full-price console releases is diminishing, then FIFA 13 is clearly doing something right.

EA has revealed that the FIFA 13 demo was downloaded a total of 1.99m people in its first three days of release. That’s 29 per cent up year-on-year compared to the opening three-day performance of the FIA 12 demo last year.

Furthermore, pre-orders for the full FIFA 13 release are up 37 per cent year-on-year (in Europe, 62 per cent in America) at over 875,000 copies.

FIFA 13 will be released in the UK on September 28th. Season Pass holders can begin downloading it on September 21st, with early access to FIFA 13 Ultimate Team beginning on September 18th.

imaging the slim ps3 + fifa 13

this will be a big hit like ever other fifa

Fifa is arguably the most surprisingly impressive game series sales-wise this generation. Every single iteration has outsold the last, unless I'm reading something wrong.

Fifa 06: 5.11 million
Fifa 07: 6.34 million
Fifa 08: 9.38 million
Fifa 09: 9.34 million
Fifa 10: 10.42 million
Fifa 11: 11.91 million
Fifa 12: 11.98 million (and still sneaking upwards a bit. Should do up to 250,000 more)

And then you have Madden NFL, EA's other major sports series. It's just gone the opposite way instead.

Madden NFL 06: 9.03 million
Madden NFL 07: 10 million
Madden NFL 08: 8.03 million
Madden NFL 09: 7.8 million
Madden NFL 10: 7.42 million
Madden NFL 11: 6.45 million
Madden NFL 12: 5.14 million

It's quite astounding how they managed to more than double the size of Fifa, while halving the size of Madden, all during the same generation.  I'm not sure what they did differently between the two, either.

FIFA just got a lot better.

More importantly, it got better than Pro Evolution Soccer (that's what most of my friends say). Compare the sales of both series.

Yeah. Pro has just stagnated really while FIFA has made huge strides.

Well, the difference is that football is ok-to-entertaining, whereas handegg is the worst thing ever.

Crazy. EA has seen a lot of success with sports titles the past 3 years (well always but moreseo). I THINK that NHL has been improving the last 3-4 years as well. Annual FPS + Sports = $ for EA

Madden didn't get any better.

FIFA got better, especially from 08 onwards.

Basically word got out that FIFA was actually better than Pro Evo from 07 onwards, and by 08, the Pro Evo fans couldn't pretend any longer that FIFA was finally better.

Nowadays it's a given that FIFA is better than Pro Evo, but you will still find the odd idiot who will swear otherwise.

No surprise really. Football is so big in Europe and the UK especially. Every time a FIFA game is released the queues in game/hmv or wherever are huge on release day and the game is sold out for a long while after. I'd even say FIFA is almost as big as call of duty in the UK.
