Yeah and that's after using 1GB for the WiiU's operating system.

The Xbox360/PS3 only has 512mb for both gaming and operations so considering people thought the WiiU was as weak as a 7th gen console its not to bad.

We will see what the WiiU can do graphically after a couple of years as developers get used to the hardware.

My 4 year old computer has 4 GB of ram and it can play the same games my 360 or PS3 can.  Ammount of ram or clockspeed of cpus have nothing to do with real world performance.

My 2008 PC has 2x3.16 Ghz + 4gb  and my 2011 laptop has 2x2.66 ghz + 4gb and is faster.

My 2003 PC has 3ghz my phone has 800mhz and my phone can display 1080p videos and is faster.

I guess they use special ram  that wont work on computers  so I dont think they can simply but 4 or 8 into it.  Sure additional 4gb standard PC ram would be cool and could help the WiiU's 1gb.

well some of it will likely be made available for games later (like the 3DS). and on top of that, it is still about 4x the amount of RAM the PS3 and maybe 360 had (i cant find the amount it uses for gaming right now).

That is unlikely to be true. The Wi U is a total game machine. All features will be used towards the benefit of games. The only rationalization I can come up with for it being 1 GB just for the OS is that it will be running things that enhance or react with the gameplay. It could also be used for streaming to the Upad.

Consoles directly access the games and the games are made so the hardware can directly access it.   Pc's have windows the OS is always turned on not like on consoles  and therefore uses ram and PC ressources.  The games also cant directly communicate with the hardware  they need  for example DirectX DirectSound etc...  all this needs ressources and thats one of the reasons why your Pc has to be better than your console to play the same games with same graphics.

The other reason is because of 100 different geforce or amd cards etc the games cant use the graphics cards etc. whole power because programming all software to use the maximum of every gpu, cpu etc. out there  costs to much money and time. You cannot optimize games on PC  like you can on a console.
