Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why have Analysts/gaming media Been extremly negative in the last few years?

It seems like they refuse to get excited for anything and literally have no patience anymore.

First example, Nintendo Is not releasing a price or a release date till september? Thats too long! It wont ever be succesful, no console can wait that long to release info

Well, I guess the media has forgotten that the Wii released all of its info, in september, two monthes before it released. It showcased its price and release date, was anyone negative then about it? No, just shows how media has changed into crazy idiots now

Next example, All consoles are dead, just look at the sales! THey are terrible now!

Yeah, that usaully happens at the end of the damn cycle, they arent dead they are just old. Did people panick when the xbox and GC stopped selling? no because they wernt stupid like analysts are today.

And Final example, in 2011 "THERE is NO MARIO DAMNIT! YOU CAN'T HAVE A LAUNCH withoUT MARiO! Those damn idiots at nintendo, we need more mario!" 2012 "wow, wii u is launching with mario? gee can't mario take a back seat for once? let new franchises shine, sheez!"

i know it may seem like most of my post is just talking about nintendo getting hated on, but thats just because nintendo right now is a much easier target because they are by themselves, so there is going to be more insults towards them. Just wait till microsoft and sony start showcasing their consoles, they will get the hate as well.

Why is the media so crazy these days? they are negative and they seem like they want things to fail. Whats with that?

There are more haters than enthusiast. Ratings basically. Media can grab more attention by being negative and abrasive because not only does it get the attention of all the less intelligent people, it upsets everyone else. That way you basically get the attention of almost all audiences, whereas if they were level headed the majority of people wouldn't care.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Negativity sells. People like negativity, it gets them talking. Look at this site as an example. Only negative news seem to get people talking mostly.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

It's actually a really obvious reason why they're being so negative. Think of the news today. The bad news is mostly what is covered by the bigger news stations, because bad news gets more views which leads to better ratings which ultimately leads to more money. Media doesn't live to show the good news (unless its the product or solution of the bad news) because people just shrug it off. However, if bad news is being shown, people will worry and will follow it until everything is okay. Thats why the News over dramatizes bad news.
Thats why analysts are negative, as it will draw more people to their articles

Because gamers are essentially brats who want to read bad things about the consoles / games they don't like. The gaming press knows this, and uses it to their advantage to steer aforementioned brats towards adverts.

Thing is, they weren't this bad in 2006 though, it seems like a sudden trend to be negative now

I was gonna say you forgot to mention all the negativity surrounding the rumored Wii U specs and how powerful it truly is / isn't... but yeah, that's a topic for another thread 9,999 threads.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Yeah, the gaming industry always had its share of fanboyism and negativity, especially against Nintendo, but nowadays it's viral.

The good thing about today is that today we, the people of the internet, have a voice, and can do something about it.

Things didn't go as planned. 360/PS3 were expected to dominate and it was meant to be core game heaven with everything loved from PS2 having sequels in glorious HD.

Whereas Wii threw off everyone's expectations of what the market was, a lot (not all) of the HD sequels were just terrible or infinitely delayed. The journalists are looking for people to blame that there wasn't a flood of awesome great looking core games. Be that the console makers or the customers.

If it bleeds, it leads--once you understand this journalistic axiom, pretty much anything the media does should start to make a great deal more sense.

(Except in politics, where the media picks its horse and protects that horse at all costs.)
