Impact on games and content - i.e. special deals, timed exclusivity, dlc deals and lead SKU status. On this dimension, dominating the english speaking countries means dominating all of the important studios (you have to realize that there aren't any relevant studios in Japan). The second aspect is that the rest of the world, with the exception of japan which isn't relevant in the console space anymore, tends to follol the lead of the US. Next gen, I expect complete domination in the english speaking world by the xbox and a solid win in europe. If MS can sort out the media issues in Europe that win could become domination. |
What? Dominating all of important studios? What are you talking about ? PS3 has an insanely good 3rd party support and with the exception of Activision and COD, most developers have been releasing exclusive or timed exclusive DLC on PS3 these last few years. And there's a pretty big japanese title releasing this october which will without a doubt do insanely well in japan and the west.
None of that even matters tho. PS3 has been able to outsell both Wii and 360 WW while being crushed in US &UK for the whole year now. And PS2 proves that emerging markets DO matter. It still keeps selling few millions each year despite being almost non existent in the developed countries. This allowed sony to build a storng userbase in those countries and once those countries economies grow and they become more developed, Sony will have a humongous advantage
You don't know of any major titles coming out this holiday season? What are you under a rock or something?!
I guess it depends what Sony have for TGS.
Super Slim, combined with a pricecut and budget SW... Then it sure is a possibility.
Nah, 360 will keep PS3 at bay one more holiday season.
I don't understand why people are discrediting Halo 4. Despite COD's incredible popularity (which 360 has anyway), a new numbered Halo game will be a huge exclusive and move plenty of consoles during the holidays.

You ignored one very important factor... It is only the second Halo this generation that will feature Halo's main protagonist, Master Chief. Historically speaking, Halo with Master Chief far outsells the non Master Chief Halo's. This game will be bigger than you think.

Dude, if anyone wanted Xbox because of Halo, they would have gotten it million times by now...

That's because everyone expected the PS3 to continue Sony's dominance in the console market, not relegate it to a distant third place for the majority of this generation. Now that this gen is coming to a close and the next one will be fully in gear by end of '13 / early '14, Sony barely topping the 360 after giving away so much market share from just 5 years ago and with the 360 being severely handicapped in one of the three biggest gaming markets, Japan, is just a minor consolation prize in the grand scheme of things. |
Another thing, this holiday season, the Wii U would be in the role of either thne 360 of this generation, or some would argue the Dreamcast of the last generation. The main focus now is if the Wii U will build up sufficiently large enough lead to make a difference long term, the way the 360 did. It is very likely the Wii U steals all the buzz this season, and ends up being the new system of choice to get.
The PS3 will overtake the XBox 360 insert year threads were classics. A lot of people got it wrong. Whether the 360 finishes second or third, it has done a great job improving significantly upon last generation. X360 should reach 80 million sales, more than three times the total of the XBox.
