I always think so , but then they always put out a huge game. Halo.......

It could be close this year.

The influence of Halo and COD in 360 sales are going to overlap.    Halo wont matter,  because the people buying a 360 for COD are also doing it for Halo as a bonus.   Halo is not longer the best selling FPS, it is COD now.  If they were different genres, then the userbase would be so different and big that console sales would be sky high.

The 360 will get the same % increase as previous years with every other COD release.

Player1x3 - Are you incapable of reading a post? The PS3 is getting handily outsold in all of the territories that have any strategic importance. Sony is a distant third in those countries.

I doubt Europe, Japan, and everywhere else except US, UK and Canada have no strategic importance, especially so late into the generation, where the hardware and games are more affordable and homebrew is available to appeal to emerging countries and economies

What he's trying to say is that anywhere the 360 has a lead in (uk and USA) is of 'strategic imprtance', and anywhere the ps3 has a lead is irrelevant, which is why the 360 has outsold the ps3 every single week this year.

That's a dead argument since PS3 has outsold every other console (other than 3DS) this year WORLDWIDE.  The world is the only region of strategic importance.

On the main issue of the thread, the PS3 will definitely outsell the X360.  It won't be until next year, though.

Player1x3 - you are confusing strategic importance with financial performance. There are two components to consider for strategic importance. Impact on games and content - i.e. special deals, timed exclusivity, dlc deals and lead SKU status. On this dimension, dominating the english speaking countries means dominating all of the important studios (you have to realize that there aren't any relevant studios in Japan). The second aspect is that the rest of the world, with the exception of japan which isn't relevant in the console space anymore, tends to follol the lead of the US. Next gen, I expect complete domination in the english speaking world by the xbox and a solid win in europe. If MS can sort out the media issues in Europe that win could become domination.

No, it won't.

Halo 4 is the difference. If Sony had an Uncharted or God of War to go up against it, then 360 would still win, but the gap would be closer. As it is now, Halo 4 vs. some lesser IP's is just kind of a no contest.

Wonderbook is a bit of a wildcard. I think it's stupid, but it's not designed for people like me, so I kind of have no idea how well it'll do.

I don't understand people who say that sequels don't sell consoles. They do. I know it doesn't really make much sense, but it just happens like that. At least in the short term - I'm willing to bet in the long term as well.

I think it all depends on if a PS3 super slim comes out. If it does, then I say yes, it will outsell the Xbox 360.

If one doesn't come out then I think it won't, but the gap will definitely close. Kinect isn't getting much support so I think the Xbox 360 will lose a lot of momentum in the holidays, especially without a price cut.

Sigh, PS3 is getting crushed in the only places that strategically matter, the English speaking countries. As I have said many times if you rate the countries on a scale of 1 to 10. The US is a 10, British empire is a 5, Northern Europe a 3, the rest of world including japan is a 3.

I think it goes more by population than by whether or not they speak English, as most people outside of any English speaking country will tell you, they learn English as well in their country.  Considering English is the dominant language used in business, finance, air travel, and a lot of other things.

I think what matters more is the size of the population, how much of that population are gamers, and how many are not.  If the population of a European country is 60m and only 10m game, that opens up a huge population to try and exploit.  Doesn't matter if they're English speaking or not.  It's a market in which any company can push into.
