Forums - Gaming Discussion - Beating A Dead Horse: PS3 to Pass 360 this Holiday?

Will the PS3 surpass the Xbox 360 in HW this holiday?

Yes 112 36.25%

No 197 63.75%

Total:309

With an appropriately priced ultra slim PS3 in combination with the great value game collections I would say it's possible, if not sometime during 2013 after GoW Ascension, Last of Us and Beyond: TS.

They may get close but I doubt it.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Sigh, PS3 is getting crushed in the only places that strategically matter, the English speaking countries. As I have said many times if you rate the countries on a scale of 1 to 10. The US is a 10, British empire is a 5, Northern Europe a 3, the rest of world including japan is a 3.

Wtf are you talking about? It's getting crushed in the only places that strategically matter? That's must why the Xbox has outsold ps3 every single week this year.. O wait..

Just to let you know, Britain is no longer referred to as the British empire pal. And if the ps3 is getting crushed in Britain it clearly makes no difference when the ps3 destroys the 360 in Europe every week. So your 'scale' is clearly, shit.

Not a chance. When was the last time PS3 outsold 360 during the holidays? Despite having Uncharted 3, PS3 was still the lowest selling console last holiday. And this year, Sony has absolutely nothing to counter Halo 4. As usual, PS3 will sell better in Japan and Europe. But in the US and UK, PS3 likely won't even sell half as well as 360.

I don't believe they can, Unless there's a price cut.

yes, because a 5th halo game on a 7 year old console is definitely gonna a push tons of sales...

That's what I was thinking Player1x3.  Halo will definitely give the 360 a boost, but I don't think it's going to be the boost we saw with the previous Halo titles released on the 360.

He who hesitates is lost

Gears 3 helped 360 outsell PS3 last holiday, so why are you guys so convinced that Halo 4 won't do the same this holiday season? After all, it is a more popular franchise.

when they launch the PS3 slim, they'll quickly overtake the XBOX 360's install base WW..

that's if they really have a $199 or lower model..

It already has.  There are more active PS3s than 360s, or at the very least, it's virtually even.

As for the question in the OP, Microsoft's strategy for the 360 is heavily centered around the Holidays and "Shooter Season" in the fall.  That's when they release their big exclusives and when they offer big rebates on consoles and bundles.  The 360 typically spends most of the year trailing the PS3 on at weekly basis only to surge in the final quarter.  Probably going to be the same scenario this year unless either one goes the price cut/redesign route.

It will be at least a year before the PS3 passes the 360 in total units sold.  Doesn't matter that much anyway--it might be the only metric fanboys care about, but there are other figures businesses consider to be as or more important.

As for Microsoft, they have to be kind of concerned about how low the sales rate has been for the lifetime of the 360.  It's by far the lowest of the three consoles, which could mean trouble if they don't launch thier next console much earlier than Sony again.
