Forums - General Discussion - U.S. Government creates cat-like robot that can outrun Usain Bolt

Tagged games:

The U.S. government's DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency) has created a cat-like robot capable of outrunning Olympic champion and fastest man alive Usain Bolt.

The robot, developed and tested by Boston Dynamics, is dubbed the Cheetah, which we really hope stands for Chasing Hunting Exterminating Eradicating Terminating Android Holy s**t machine.

"DARPA states on its website that it hopes to use the Cheetah robot in emergency responses, humanitarian missions and other defense missions," according to CBS News.

As you can see from the DARPA video below, its design is reminiscent of the cat-like Decepticon named Ravage from Transformers.

And here's Ravage from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen:

Have you ever actually seen a cat?

I saw this earlier. Apparently it's going to be used for running after criminals/terrorists/whatever in desert areas to kill them...also, it can't distinguish between criminals and civilians...scary. Amazing though

So... What's wrong with using a car in emergency responses, humanitarian missions and other
defense missions?? Or will this baby shoot lasers?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Why would you want something that moves on wheels when you can have it run on legs? Legs automatically bring a 10x intensifier to the intimidation scale.

I'm assuming the real value in legs will be the ability to cross terrain that's too rocky or unstable for wheels.

Reported.

On topic:

That's really cool!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

By the time it hits 15 mph, just over half Bolt's speed, Bolt has already crossed the finish line.

Reported for having a dog avatar in a cat thread. That's trolling.
