Canada's land mass is slightly bigger then the USA, maybe you should narrow it down a bit.

I did the Eurorail thing twice when I was in my 20's. Travel light and make sure your backpack fits comfortably. A mosquito net is your best friend for sleeping outdoors.

No offense and not to be some sort of troll ruining your trip, but if I were you, I'd backpack somewhere else other than Canada. I live in Canada and I don't even find anything interesting...

I understand if you have your heart set on Canada but you could probably find a nicer place to backpack. Lot's of great and scenic national parks. Also you should bring a buddy to tag along. People often feel like they want to get away from people until they're away from people.

Sounds fun, something i wouldn't mind doing someday.
