We've discussed this, but its hardly active because of where it is located, and it will continue that way while you all ignore that. There would be a huge difference if stickies were ont he front page, but well that just isnt the case.

I simply refuse to believe that the majority of users use the VGC main page for looking in the forum rather than using the Forums page for looking in the forum.

Well, like surge said, the general discussions forum is essentially proof that 90% of this forum only look at the front page.  That being said, it isnt your problem, and if people really want to complain about moderation, this thread isnt that hard to find.  All the people that complain the most seem to have found this thread without a problem...

1. Pezus first ban didn't actually break any rule. He wasn't criticizing or directly talking about another user's ban. He just quoted cone and said he didn't know that a certain user name was an alt of another. While it is a related issue he was not talking directly about a moderation or forum rules... which is what is against the rules in any thread but this one, and monthly ban report.

2. He makes an offhanded "lol" comment on his wall and gets banned again. That is getting out of control.

While there are things that do deserve stricter and better moderation on this site to help enable more productive conversations there is a fine line between being productive and effective moderators and abuse of power.

Did I remove it? Might that be because of another stupid rule, the 3 quote tree limit? At least I don't remember removing it on purpose.

Sorry, but when someone makes an accusation that is false about me in that thread I will correct it. I would do it again and suffer a ban for it. Cone made an accusation. Sending him a PM or posting about it here would've been absolutely pointless because other people in the thread would read Cone's post and believe it.

Yes, you removed it. It had nothing to do with any "stupid" rule, it was in the exact damn post that you quoted.

This post got you banned - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6262805

This is the original post you quoted - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6261622

You removed the entire "Don't discuss it here, or you'll be banned" thing.
___

As for the other part... It isnt an accusation. We as a team know that people discuss things in group discussions outside of the site. Conegamer said that discussing the problems in private PMs, rather than bringing the problems up with the team directly, isnt going to change anything. There is no accusation.

In the post you quoted, you (along with others) were directly told to keep that conversation out of that thread. You were given more than enough warning, yet you ignored it. You got a 1 day ban. The funny thing is... It obviously didnt teach you anything at all, as you came back with the childish "NaziChartz" wall post.

Steep, tough moderation? Arguable. Unfair? Nope. You and the others really, really should have taken note of the several warnings already posted throughout the thread.

See above.

He (along with everyone else) was asked to keep the off topic moderator/ ban discussion out of the PS Nation thread. He ignored those warnings when he directly quoted the post that had the warnings. He got banned. Despite what he argues he can totally, completely send a pm to the mod in question when he has something like that to say.

When people are complaining about off topic shit going on in threads, its our job to step in and do one of 2 things: Put the thread back in place or lock it up. We will only look the other way for so long. The Nation threads, despite what certain users like to think, are in place for fanbases to talk about company specific videogame stuff. PS Nation thread is for PlayStation stuff. Xbox Nation is for Xbox (or MS) stuff. Nintendomination one is for Conegamer to ignore.

They arent threads for groups of users to band together and post whatever off topic bullcrap that they so desire. That, my friend, is spam. It ruins the thread for other users who actually follow them for news and community stuff. It makes threads a pain to navigate when every other post is an image reply that has nothing at all to do with videogames.

The Nazi thing is exactly what it is. You may see it as a "lol" comment, others may see it as something offensive. Some people will see it as bait. Some people will see it as extremely childish.

Dear moderators,

banning pezus again doesn't get you any plus points. In fact, it makes everything worse again. I'd like to know why you guys decided to go all crazy this month. What happened?

What do you think we went crazy on? Any specific examples?

Well if making the community not like the mods is your goal then I say you guys are doing a great job so far.

Its upsetting! You really think that things went crazy just because a few of us were given the job?

Yes, what I posted in this very thread last week, plus banning kowenicki for asking another user a question.

Im eating right now, so as I go through the thread finding the posts, this may take a while...

Anyway.

Post one - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6246411

Id agree that the Outlawauron ban shouldnt have happened. If I was in the mod chat at the time, you can be sure that Id have been against it. I had this problem myself when I got moderated for saying that people who were banned for trolling, were trolls. Kicked up a stink about it back then and I feel the same way about it now.

I would always argue for a "slap on the wrist", so to say, rather than any moderation in a case like that. So yeah, I think a PM should have been enough.

On the whole bridge-jumping thing, I guess that comes down to the moderators in questions personal take on it without knowing the relationship between yourself and gergroy. If I wasnt aware of it, then yeah, Id agree that telling someone to jump off a bridge is taking things too far. Can totally understand why you were moderated for that one, even if it was a genius way of calling someone a troll.

Post two - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6246729

toastboy has been warned about his threads. Thats all I will say on that thing. There comes a time when its blatantly obvious that a user is simply trying to get a rise out of a certain userbase. In all honesty, I think it should have happened a long time ago (And Id kill for a mod feature that lets us take away thread creation features from certain users).

Alpha, I can agree on a moderation. As ludicrous as toastboys post was, users shouldnt take that bait. Conegamer already did put down a mini warning in the thread telling people to not retaliate.

On bubblegamers post, I never actually saw it and I wasnt in the mod chat at the time that thread was being talked about. I would have handed out a moderation, primarily for the "loyalists" comment followed by the little bit of mod criticism.

Post three - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6247492

etking's post is borderline. One guy may choose to moderate, another guy may choose to let him off. The whole "serious gamer" thing though, thats taking it too far and yeah, I would have moderated.

Superchunk's post is very much like Alpha before. He nibbled on the hook.

Rather than going out and implying someone is a child, which only causes more shit to happen in the thread, I think he should have just shot down the post without the little insult. I would probably agree with the how Superchunk himself puts it, after reading up on things. In the same context, the brother should have ignored it.

Post four - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6247544

That is a real moderation. Without context, youd be right to think it was a joke.

Fusioncode already has a past moderation for harping on Zero999. His post was seen as yet more mocking of Zero, thus he was given a warning. Personally, I wouldnt have gone for that but I can see why Starcraft did, taking history into account. Snide post.

Regarding the kowenicki moderation, Ill come out and say that it was me who got him unbanned after bringing it up with Cone/axum.
This was explained already though, so Ill not go further. Was a mistake on Conegamers part, which he has admitted to.

Overall I can see why you and others would have problems with some of them moderations, though I think the "crazy" thing is a tad OTT.
____

This part isnt specifically for you, Rol.

Honestly, despite being a "new guy" myself, I think a few problems that users are having with certain moderations is down to something we can compare to teething problems. When the new guy starts his new job, he is uber-enthusiastic. He wants to make an impression. Sometimes, that enthusiasm can push you into mistakes. We saw it with past "new guys" and no doubt, we will see it with the future "new guys". I know for a fact that I have been fairly strict on the rule set since I joined the team. I like to think that I have been firm but fair so far. I dont think Ive made a mistake yet. If I have, Id like someone to actually let me know.

This thread isnt just for talking about specific moderations, its for letting us know how you think we are doing on the job. If you think someone is getting things wrong, bring it up like Rol did in his posts. Coming in and saying that things went "crazy" because some new mods were added is just silly. It helps with nothing. Same goes for saying things like we are trying to get people to dislike us.

Tell us why. Tell us why you think we arent doing a good job.

Revolution! I say we get Joethebro to hack the site and ban all the current mods. It'll be like the French Revolution, except without all the beheading.

Anyways, that Pezus ban was ridiculous. He got banned for joking about the site? It's his wall, he should be able to say whatever he wants.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=160420

It's all quite clear in this thread:

"From this point on mod criticism in any public form will not be allowed with a few exceptions. We have a dedicated mod performance thread where we've allowed users to come in and reasonably state their case publicly if they feel it sets a new precedent and what not. We have a monthly ban thread where rules of discussion are specifically laid out. These are the ONLY public forums for mod criticism we will allow from now on. Anything in the form of threads, posts, wall posts, wall comments, article comments, game page comments, etc. will no longer be welcome. "

So it's against forum rules to talk about moderation on walls. That's the rules, and I'm sure pezus was aware of them given the countless warnings that have been given out as of late. Hence the ban was given, and understandably so. I agree that they should be part of the official forum rules on the top of the page but unfortunately I don't see that happening right now; though it doesn't make the rules in that thread any less official.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
