I'm not saying racism and homophobia are OK, but jumping directly to a permaban? That idea is just STUPID.

Yeah, I agree with this. It would be a bit much for someone that had never been banned before. Even if they were way out of line if they have had a decent history before that they deserve another chance.

Exactly.. Wouldn't it be unfair if, for example, I would directly get perma'd for making a racist post right now? Not saying that I would post something like that, but you get what I'm trying to say!

If, for example, you call someone the N-word then I think you do deserve to get permabanned. You don't need a second chance for something like that, you already  know that making horribly racist and sexist comments is wrong.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Why would it be unfair to permanently get rid of a racist?

Because an user that is racist once might not be racist a second time??

And yet, they are still a racist and will have offended people on the site to a degree that is way beyond calling them say, a fanboy or a dickhead or whatever.

Why take the risk on someone who has already gone way out of the way to be racist once?

Why should a known racist be welcome on this site?

Maybe because they are not racist 99% of the time?

Edit: Saw your post so....  why should a racist not be welcome on this site? As long as they aren't actually being racist on the site then there shouldn't be a problem.

Doesnt matter if its once in 10,000 posts or once in 10 posts.

I'm fed up with seeing blanket warnings in threads, somehow if multiple people in a thread all break the rules, certain mods can't be bothered to hand out individual moderations and so they all get a free pass and a in thread warning.

Shouldn't be like that. I did message a mod once recently and they rectified it, but I'd like to see it stamped out completely.

Also we really need a few senior head mods that can overthrow other mods decisions. Carl, Kantor, Tor, Kahn and a couple others maybe.

I want to address this.

Sometimes blanket warnings are given where no individual has reached the point of requiring moderation. Other times they are given because the Mod in question doesn't have sufficient time to hand out 3-5 moderations (each one takes a couple of minutes, and we all have jobs/families/lives). If that happens, the mod should either:

1. Come back later, or

2. Leave the mod reports in the queue so another mod knows to deal with it.

As for senior mods, already exists. Decisions can be overthrown by:

  • Kantor - Head Mod
  • Smeags - Deputy Head Mod
  • Committee - discussion amongst a number of mods in mod chat (they'll generally wait until they've heard from the mod that made the original decision).

We're all in different timezones, so all of the above can take a while.

It would set a dangerous precedent though. How racist would something have to be to warrant a ban? Would something minor be worthy of an instant perma ban? What about people from different cultures? Things some people consider racist is completly normal for others.

What would you say is minor racism?

I just don't see what his race contributes to the series

Probably something accidental that wasn't meant to offend people.

For example there was a post on here a few months ago saying Britain had bad taste in games because of which games were on the charts for that week. That isn't really intentionally discriminatory to British people and would be a very harsh perma ban if any racist things were instant perma bans.

I dont even think that reaches "minor" status.
