Its probably a good system, I owned one but sold it back though. Wait until the games you like come out for it.

Could always buy a DS if you wanted some Mario & Pokemon, plus the expansive library it's got outside of that.

Of course, a 3DS is future-proof for the next few years and can play all the DS games out there. Up to you I guess!

Wait. Japan is well served, but not America imho.

If a 3D mario or all new Metroid comes out exclusively for the 3DS, and a brand new pokemon, then I would say go for it. Do you like Metroid?

Since you're a PS3 owner, you'll get a lot out of a Vita.

The games I like are Mario games, so only 3DLand and NSMB2 really.

Paper Mario is coming out too!  It should be a top notch game.

You will get more from your Vita as a playstation 3 and I'm assuming likely PS4 owner with all the cross buys and integration and whatnot. And personally I think the Vita as hardware is almost perfect, best hardware I've ever owned. Software is the issue. It's got a good lineup for the next year and I'm sure plenty of stuff we don't know about is in the works (as with any platform) but right NOW the 3DS has easily the better library of games, and we don't know how much support the Vita will be getting in 2 years. If sales continue as they are it won't be much support at all.

No, we don't need your kind in our group, pezus. Unless you're willing to burn your Sony consoles as a sacrifice to Nintendo, we really can't have you owning a 3DS.

On another note, what kind of games do you like the best? I mean, Mario should be fine. Pokemon, too (don't worry, it hasn't actually changed any in the past 15 or so years so you'll probably still like it). But, even if you already have lots to play on your other consoles, I don't think a cumulative total of half a dozen titles at most is really enough to buy a system for.

The 3DS has a better library than the Vita, and I don't see that changing. I just don't see what would be enticing about the Vita from a developer's standpoint. Bigger budgets? Lower install base? Likely, you'll see developers putting PS3/X-Box titles onto the Vita to maximize their profits but I don't expect much more than that. So if you're looking for a handheld console, I think the 3DS is the way to go.

But, I think the 3DS may be region locked.

When?

Another downside is that Nintendo games never seem to come down in price. There are plenty of cheap Vita games here but most of the 3DS games are way too expensive.

Yea, the only cheap 3DS games made by Nintendo would be Pilotwings and Red Steel.  Both decent games but you probably shouldn't drop more than 20 for both of them.  Nintendo has published a few excellent games on the 3DS e shop.  Pushmo (Pullblox in Europe), Ketzal's Corridors, Sakura Samurai, Freakyforms, etc...

The e shop has a lot of good games on it from other publishers too.  Loving the pinball games from Zen and a few other unique experiences.  The e shop has a ton of crazy platformers.  The 3DS has excellent platform games already.

Never. You should remain loyal to your favourite brand.
