Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Finally Announces Larger SimulView Screen: 84 Inches of 4K Glory

I wish I could buy one!!! (dreams)

What content is in 4k resolution?. I think there was a blu ray player they had that upscaled to 4k, but I don't beleive there is anything that runs in native 4k resolution as of yet.
Still an future proof 84 inch TV would be great if I was a millionaire.

Realistically, it probably isn't future proof ... I wouldn't be surprised if, by the time content comes out for 4K televisions, the cables and adapters are changed backed with more restrictive DRM for 4K delivered content and this TV will not be compatible with the format.

How does 3,840 x 2,160 compare to retina display?

Depends on which device you're talking about:

The iphone 4/4S has a 960 x 640 resolution on a 3.5" screen. 326 ppi

The ipad has a 2048 x 1536 resolution on a 9.7" screen. (3.1MP) 264 ppi

The new Macbook Pro has a 2880 x 1800 resolution on a 15.4" screen. (5MP) 220 ppi

This tv has a 3840 x 2160 resolution on an 84" screen. (8MP) just under 53 ppi (a 42" 1080P display would have the same ppi)

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

does it display an image far greater than my brain comprehends from the signal it receives from my eyes?

Isn't Sony in the red cause of their TV division? This would make no sense to make at the moment. It's nice but they need to price their stuff right for people to buy. Not overprice their stuff like they are with almost everything they have.

It's going to cost $10K - $15K for that HDTV I bet. I wouldn't waste my money, even if I was a millionaire.

I'm hoping the new consoles are able to support these higher resolutions. That will be critical.

You can get a 70" LED tv for $2500 - $3000, so I can't see this being more then $6000.

I'd say the price would be around $5000 - $6000.

There is 1 movie http://timescapes.org/4k/about_the_movie.aspx filmed in 5K and editted in 16 bit color.
At 120gb for 52min it runs at about 315 mbps, better then the 250 mbps you get in the cinema, 10 x that of the average blu-ray.

A modern graphics card like an AMD Radeon 7970 will output 4K.
