Forums - Gaming Discussion - Best "rain" effect in a video game.

Just a pointless thread, but I really like it when it rains in a video game.  Going trough my game collection, I wondered wich game has the best "rain" effect

1.  Sleeping Dogs.  The rain effect in this game is near perfect.  It does not happen too often and the sounds are awesome.  The NPC's react by taking out their umbrellas or protecting themselves with the paper.  Also, Wei's clothing reacts accordingly.  9.5/10

2.  Silent Hill Downpour.  In this game, I found the rain effect to be pretty good.  The sound is a bit loud, but it helps with the atmosphere of the whole game.  On my playthrough, it rained a lot, making the enemies more agressive.  8/10

3.  Risen 2.  When the rain starts to fall, it's always with thunder and lightning but the sound effects are too loud.  It does nothing on the character or the ground around him.  Plus, it happens way too often.  I know it's in the game context, but it's still too much.  6/10

4.  Heavy Rain.  Good effects but they are more cinematic than anything else.  7/10

Pointless topic I know, but would like to have more opinions on games with good rain effect. Thanks.

Not the best by any chance but at its time, metroid prime with the visor.

The best rain effect in a video game for me .

Was the rain in the last level of Mario 3d Land for Nintendo 3ds. (not really last level first "last" level before "playthrough 2" starts)

Why? Because when I saw it I was like: "O.o WHAAAT? Frickin rain in a Mario game?" I still can't remember if any Mario game before 3d Land had rain. So it had an "effect" on me :)

So its the best rain because it suprised me which ingame rain normally doesn't do and not because its the best looking one.

No Idea what the best looking rain is tho . Sorry

Btw I would really like to play sleeping dongs!

I like when it rains in Animal Crossing. Just some white jagged lines falling from top of the screen.

But it looks cool.

Hmm... I'd go for the rain in the Hard Rain campaign of Left 4 Dead 2. It's not incredibly impressive on a technical level, but it does what it's meant to: scares the shit out of you (all 4 of you) and makes you lose orientation. You know to get your ass cheeks against your teammates' when you hear one of the survivors say, "The storm's coming!" The rain's not to be fucked with in that game.

I came here thinking saying "Heavy Rain" in the most corny way possible... Not doing it tho

LET'S GO KNICKS

Obviously Heavy Rain had the best use of rain.
I think that's all I wanted to say.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

The rain in Metroid Prime and Halo 3 ODST left the most impression on me. So subtle and atmospheric.

Being completely honest, the rain from the original Donkey Kong Country for SNES (only a few levels I think). That and the SNOW. Really immerses you in the game despite being so old. I also second the rain in Metroid Prime. I can't believe how much art style is still looked at as the second brother to graphics. This is a perfect example of that.
