Forums - Sales Discussion - NSMB2 vs the Vita Top 10

Dudebro, you do realize what site we're on? And the point is really worldwide performance.

And I'm sure how you can count some launch titles for Vita and leave out others.

That said, some of those titles should have some decent sales boosts when they launch in the West.

Dude, stop trailing me. So what I don't use VGChartz numbers. I made this to exemplify the same scenario in japan.

And what other games? They never charted in the top 30, so no way to know their sales (less than those in the top 10 for sure though)

These are the launch games that charted at some point

Some of them will have higher numbers (Especially persona - great legs on that one), but we'll never know that until famitsu's top 100 or Media Creator top 500. This is the best we know.

The bet was that NSMB2 would outsell the top 10 Vita games announced/shown at E3 2012. I think it will.

That sounds like it will be impossible to determine until 2019 or so. I like my version more.

There is Uncharted, which by itself is over 0.6 million, but it was released in 2011 fo Japan. Other than that, the Vita sales are pretty dismal. Admittedly, VGChartz doesn't count digital sales. But the same can be said about Mario, so fair's fair.

It's funny that you say that Vita sales are dismal. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 was released in Japan in 2008 for PS2. PS2 sold ~ 20 million units that far in Japan, and the game sold 360000 copies. PSV didn't even break 1 million units in Japan, and Persona 4 Golden sold 210000 copies. Tales of Innocence was released in Japan in 2007 for NDS and on again ~20 million units sold 290000  copies. And again on under million Vita's sold the remake Tales of Innocence R sold 90000 copies. So what's exactly dismal here?

About the DL copies. Since there are "download cards" that are carried by retailers, aren't the digital numbers (or most of them) already included into total sales of NSMB2?

about 40k units should be digital
they said 5% out of the total
do the math

The thing is, it shouldn't be just a million units. The attach rate for a couple of remakes is great... but so what? Overall hardware and software sales should be higher by now. And Even Persona 4 isn't that big a hit; it's been outsold be nine new and three old 3DS games so far this year. By this point in its life, the 3DS was still in trouble, but even it was doing better, with about twice as many hardware sales. It had a million seller (Ocarina 3D) and another game with sales near a million (Nintendogs+cats), in addition to a bunch of smaller games like PilotWings and Layton that were either localized or otherwise limited sucesses. The Vita, even counting digital sales, doesn't come close to that.

As for download cards, we have no idea if those count as retail sales or note.

lol, don't flatter yourself. The last I'll ever do is go to your profile to look at your posts.

And if you don't care about VGC, why bother posting here? Especially so whenever the comparison is being made with those numbers.

The second part, designated with a space, was not directed at you, but the OP as I felt it was a bit arbitrary in what is included and that I don't think you can exclude the WW sales because of Japanese release date. And I mentioned other games in a worldwide sense as a lot of them have not released here. I expect Persona 4 Golden to crack 6 figures in the West without any trouble.

I like to talk and follow sales numbers, and I find here to be great forum (meaning the best users) to do that.  When I entered here, I was trusting VGChartz numbers like a religion - like most do, probably when they see them for the first time, but after some major incongruences I started to lose "faith" to the point of becoming ceptic. TBH, I would like VG Chartz to become the best place on the internet to search for official numbers, not a tracker. Want MC from week X? There it is. Want to find EA reports saying Mirror's Edge shipped 300k? Easy as pie. Sony financials from 1999? Second tab on the left!

As a tracker, it lefts much to be desirable, at least for me. That said, I did this comparison because you may have noticed, I like that site a lot, and did it because I was curious (after seeing the thread title), and thought it could be usefull to the discussion on the topic. Most of all, because, they're very trustful numbers. Even if MC is more, they're not that behind.

Oh, and sorry for the trailing part. Let's try to start with the right foot again, ok?

Did they even show 10 Vita games @ E3 2012? Is there a list that qualified for this bet?

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Of course they did, they just weren't in Sony's press conference for what ever reason.

About those "download cards".  I bought two copies of NSMB2.  One from the store and one digitally for my kid.  The one I bought digitally didn't require going to a store because all of my info and a security code are stored in the 3DS.  I'm sure a small number of people that bought digitally actually went to the store where a retail copy was sold and decided to buy a card, go home, and download it.  I'm willing to bet a bigger number of people just used their credit card and bought it.

The benefits of retail:  You have a physical copy that you can sell or loan.  Not tied to any particular system.  No worries about system memory.

The benefits of downloading:  You get what you want almost instantly and you don't have to worry about carrying/losing a game cart

Unless you're afraid of using your credit card on the 3DS (which is understandable) or you just don't have a card, I don't see why anybody would go with a retail download card.  Things aren't biased in Nintendo's favor.  The Vita has the exact same thing going for/against it.
