Forums - Sony Discussion - Should Sony exit console bzness.?

I m honestly surprised by the lack of interest on the behalf of Sony to recapture the market... They r not realising the importance of time.. Although 1 yr is pretty less time to see the effect of any console but there three things which i think are going against Sony.

1. They have lost the Exclusives and the new IPs they developed failed like Lair, Heavenly Sword and Warhawk.

2. They have too high cost and i don't see them lowering it either..

3. They have removed the Backward compatibility and this i think has hurt them cuz there are quite a good games still coming for PS2 and had they kept this compatbility some PS2 buyers might have jumped on the PS3. atleast i would have.

 Overall i think Sony have not managed to counter the MS threat.. although i do believe that MS has not managed fully take the advantage of the damage they have done to the Sony but it has hurt Sony a lot.

 Anyway the most important part is software and i believe Sony has lost it badly .. and so the chance for them to return is pretty slim.. it will be better if they wrap it and sell it to some other company which has passion to succeed...

 What you say.?

an early nomination for dumbest thread of the year.

lol...I hope you don't become a doctor. People might be sent to the morgue barely breathing in body bags.

After they cut production cost in half & when exclusives are about to release? HELL NO!

i nominate a 4th point, they leveraged their playstation brand to develop their blu ray brand.

@ Noobie

I hope you have a flame-resistant suit, son, because you're gonna need it ...

i dont think they need to leave the business--but i do feel they need to take a step back and refocus--i think they are just trying to please to many people but unlike nintendo they dont have a very average user friendly interface and machine

dont get me wrong its a nice peice of hardware but its intimidating to the average user

1. The exclusives, is that a game? Because if you are talking about games that are developed exclusively for their system I suggest learning a thing or 2 about how to properly use Google. Lair may have not done what it was supposed to, but Heavenly sword and Warhawk did good. Warhawk is a really good game btw, you should spend your time mastering that game instead of creating stupid topics.

2. Sigh..... They actually did do that.

3. Backward compatibillity is the most overrated feauture ever. When people run out of excuses to slam the PS3 they say: but it doesn't have BC so I can't play the PS2 games I don't have in the first place. People who are passionate about playing PS2 games will get a PS2 or the version with BC and the rest are just whining kids who could be playing on their favourite console instead of bashing another.

4. Oh no, they put a Blu ray disc in their PS3. It gives more space for uncompressed data and it effectively decreases piracy since there are hardly any people with a bd burner, those are just terrible things. Bussinswise it's the dumbest thing ever to implement a bd drive in a console meant for a crowd of people who are very likely to have a hdtv, what were they thinking at Sony? Let's hope they die so you can continue to not play games on your console like you do now.

PSN name: Gazz1979 (feel free to add me, but please put your Vgchartz name in the message!)

Battlefield 2: Gazz1979

In the long run Sony will be a much better company because of how this generation will play out ...

The combination of losing a ton of marketshare, losing a ton of money, and fighting to get a fraction of the third party support that they PS2 had by default will force Sony to rethink their entire strategy and improve the quality of their internal development teams. In 4 or 5 years the next Playstation console will be released and it will be a return to affordable consoles, will focus on the broader gaming market rather than on hard-core gamers, and Sony will (likely) produce more high quality games for the system from the day it is released.

No.  Three gaming consoles competing with each other is probably the magic number so that consumers have the best quality choices while the market is still very competetive.

I love XBox, but if Sony left the market that would mean that Nintendo would dominate one side of the market and Microsoft would dominate the other so they both wouldnt be as competitive and we, the consumer, would lose.  I do like Sony right where it is though, in third place.

I think that Sony made the same mistake that Microsoft did last year.  Having superior hardware doesn't equate to superior sales.

America = Best Gaming Console

Europe = Best Game Developers
