That's... really impossible, you know?. It'll be 30 at most.
Nintendo expects it to be 31.2 in march 2013

Very nice, and reasonable, response. It is a very sad situation, and this thread merely highlights the issue the Vita faces. However, as with most here, the Vita has only shipped 2.2mil, therefore, sold systems are likely closer to 2mil. If you say that, you could predict that the Vita will be selling as low as 20-25k at some point this year. And if you look at the holiday sales for Japan during the LAUNCH of the PSV, you'd have to say it'd be lucky to hit current 3DS sales (I'd expect 300k a week for Vita, max, WW). So...around 4.4mil for Vita, and 29.4mil for 3DS, come year's end. Obviously the 3DS will hit its target in the thread first. |
For whatever reason it didnt let me reply so yeah.
I honestly dont understand why people want to analyze things based on them being a fan of a company. Based on the past it's very possible for the 3DS looking at how the DS and 3DS are very similar in customer's eyes. The PSP on the other hand has done poorly outside of Japan for years now and Sony's flagship title Monster Hunters is now on the 3DS. With that happening the Vita just looks to be spiraling downward. I do believe the Vita will sell 5 million though, but if it can't then it needs to die because that's pathetic. The 3DS on the other hand has proven that there is a market for handheld consoles. It has proven analysts wrong about them saying that mobile games are taking over, but Nintendo shows why Mario is a world-wide known name. The Vita on the other hand is just producing Home Consoles Duplicate ports. At this point it looks like Nintendo has dominated the handheld market for so long that if Sony's Vita dies then there is no need in trying to make another handheld to compete with nintendo. Microsoft I think gets this as they let companies like Rare to make games for Nintendo Handhelds. This way Microsoft still makes money for publishing a game on a popular console instead of producing there own and losing tons of money like Sony. I honestly feel that sony need's to take this approach. i know a lot of people probably hate my opinion right now but i think it would be better for sony financially if they just published games for the 3DS

Wait! Nintendo lowered their projections for the March 2013 fiscal year? I remember them projecting 18 million units shipped by the end of the fiscal year, which would put them at 34m - 35m by the end of March.
PSV before, 3DS after. I can see the PSV doing better in the holidays
Nintendo always dominate the holidays. Even a Sony fanboy like me would agree with that.

Derp, that's correct. My mistake. I added only fiscal year 2011/2012 - but 3DS was released before that.
So it's 3.61 (FY 2010-2011) + 13.53 (fiscal year 2011/2012) + 18.5 (forecast for 2012/2013) = 35.64 million (expected scenario)
Yeah, then I think 3DS will reach 30 first even faster - in shipments, not VG Chartz numbers
