THX certified with wireless rear speakers.

I asked this question on this site a while back and after a while was convinced to give these a try:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121121&Tpk=5300e

They are THX certified and I've been extremely happy with them. Actually its hard to beat a 5.1 THX system for under $150.

PS - The biggest complaint most people have about these speakers is too much bass =P

To Each Man, Responsibility

logitech is known for their overpowered bass so there's really no alternative to brands unless you go with non-pc speakers. with that being said, try to get it replaced under warranty. if you're willing to go 5.1, z-5500s would be an improvement but if you cant afford that, go for the 5300e although it wouldnt be as boomy.
if you're willing to trade off some bass for some midrange, check out the klipsch promedia 2.1/5.1.

I agree with vtx on the Z-5500s. However, if you're looking for something smaller like a 2.1 set-up, I'd definitely have to recommend the Logitech Z-2300s.

Of course if you have money to burn and want the best AQ, I'd have to recommend going with a custom set-up. Get an A/V receiver, a Hus sub, and some nice bookshelf speakers, maybe some Missions or something, and you'll be pumping out some kickass sound, with crystal clears highs, clear, full mids (something Logitech has trouble with. There mids are always too guiet), and deep, tight bass.
