Waiting for the Wii U to buy this game and Xenoblade.

Some fun fights, and some not-so-fun. I loved the doppleganger fight, and disliked the Mystic Spider (i refused to let it eat anyone, and anyone meant Mirania since she always went first, so had to reset several times. It was the wise decision, since fighting at full strength made it more workable), but the strategy wasn't really there.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Cool, I'll consider it for these two games sometime in the future. I'm sure I could have figured it out on my own, I just never tried to find an emulator or Wii Rip.

If you do mod your Wii and unlock it, you have to play Zangeki no Reginleiv.

you have to

I looked into that game after looking at your now playing games and to be honest, I'm not interest. :P

However I am starting to love Last Story, it really started to pick up after the Boat Chapter. On Ch23 now.

A fellow Reginleiver, eh?

Yup, that was a nice game. I kinda understand why NoA and NoE passed on it (hideous slowdown and lol physics), but there was nothing quite so satisfying as blowing a frost giant's arms off from 500 meters away and watching his limbless torso flop to the ground.

Aside from that dickfucking giant airship, anyway, it was a fun game.

I've been flip-flopping over whether to get this game. Is there variety in it, and just how bad IS the slowdown? Is it unplayable?

Fair enough, no accounting for taste and admittedly the game is quite eccentric and far from perfect on a technical level. I would call it a 'Must Rent' had it been localized, since the only way to know if it's for you is to experience it yourself. Either that or play one of Sandlot's other games such as EDF on 360.

Thanks for taking the time to look into it, though. Much appreciated.

There is more variety than I had originally believed just going by videos on Youtube. The slowdown can get rediculous but only during a small percent of the time. Most of the time it's manageable.

Still, this is a Sandlot game, so being familiar with their work is the best way to know what to expect. If you can rent EDF 2017 on any of the platforms it is available on, that would give you the best indication of why this is fun. Looking at videos really doesn't do it justice.

The thing about this game (and I'd assume this is true for EDF) is I keep telling myself I shouldn't be enjoying it, there are just too many elements that seem unpolished, at times even sub-par, and should be stealing away my focus. Yet somehow that never happens, the fun conquers all and it just keeps drawing me back in.

I was able to acquire a copy for $50 including shipping, at a time when I didn't buy many games for full price. I'm a sucker for craziness, especially of the Japanese variety, so the combination of novelty, prestige and fun has definitely made it worth it for me.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Slowdown only gets bad when you kill large numbers of enemies at once (with the explosive weapons that Freya can use). With her brother, who can only use swords, hammers, and bows, you never really get it.

Some chapters are Frey only, some are Freya only, most allow you to choose. He gets physical weapons and more HP, she gets magic (though you need at least one physical weapon at all times to allow magic to restore, which is the critical juncture of Freya strategies because you need to learn how best to survive and quickly restore magic during downtimes). There's a low variety of enemies, but they keep changing up the scenario.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll take the plunge and buy it.

Also, about The Last Story, anyone else surprised to see so much sexual innuendo in a Nintendo game? I'm not complaining, it was mostly hilarious and in character, but the Big N isn't exactly known for its smutty lines...

The Last Story is a great game, imo. I just finished it in under 25 hours and I enjoyed it very much. It also helps that I like those kinds of stories. Great music, too!

Earth Defence Force? I never played it, but I recall that not also being my type.

I always look into games I like, and have gotten into importing. I got Soma Bringer for DS and will get copies of Fire Emblem and Tales of Innocence when I have time to confirm that patched ROMs work (I like to be legit, if the game is good enough to pirate, it's good enough to import, even if I never play the game). I'm also looking into Mother 3, wish I got these games new when I had the chance, but I'll be more on the ball with future games which aren't localized.

For Wii, I feel I have everything. Didn't hear great things about Disaster: Day of Crisis or Pandora's Tower, so I can live without them.

Reading the comment I deleted above, I'll tell you that I'm not into the crazy Japanese games. I can tolorate a joke episode in Anime from time to time, especially when it's a show I like and it needs a bit of comic relief (for when it gets too serious), but in games, I dunno. I like serious games, I love JRPG's and some of the better WRPG's. I love playing single player in plot heavy shooters (something like Metroid Prime, Uncharted, and arguably Halo). I do like some crazy Japanese stuff, like taunt dances in Lost Planet and the sillyness of grapple hooks and stuff, but there needs to be a serious tone.

Did you not play XenoBlade? Half the outfits on ......Fiora when she comes back, gave her D cup breasts, and she wasn't even human!

Also this is a game by Mistwalker, not Nintendo, and NoJ and NoE published it in those respective regions, but not here.

Still....I like this direction, Nintendo needs some mature content in their games sometimes, and it's kind of funny. I love Syrennes cutscene outside of the Arena of "a mans needs" and talks about fighting in the end lol.
