Forums - Politics Discussion - presidential swing state thread UPDATE 10-18, Romney continues momentum

I thought it would be a good idea to have this thread so we can talk about current polls and why states are leaning towards said candidate or swinging to the other.  This isn't a dedicated thread to argue over policies or to spew talking points, but I understand points have to be brought up.  I'll try to keep up with polls regularly, but certainly not everyday cause i don't have the time, but others here are more than welcome to add their own findings.

So to start out, the latest RCP averages (btw I rounded the %'s unless it's really close) on most of the swing states are provided below with Obama carrying most of the swing states and being a clear front runner in PA, although the latest Rasmussen polls have Romney up in FL,WI and deadlocked in OH.

WI Romney 45% Obama 49%

Polls in general.

i've seen this before, but polls are still a good indicator on where a state stands.

I have a feeling that the Romney campaign will do very well in the great lakes.
However I think Obama will pull Florida, Iowa, Nevada, and Virginia.

i think NV and VA will likely go to him, but i'm not sure about FL, and IA.  We'll have to see how well he can convince the seniors of FL how his plan will not affect them.

So in other words obama has already won.

Is it November already? I should start my Christmas shopping ...

Seriously though, I saw a couple conservative bloggers pointing out that Romney is substantially ahead of McCain at this point in the race; and if the race tightens up for Romney like it did for McCain (although it wasn't that close for McCain) Romney would win ... Of course this is all based on a bunch of assumptions none of which can be counted on.

As much as the media will never portray it this way, this race is far closer than many people seem to think and could turn ugly for either candidate rather quickly. If a relatively small swing happens and 2.5% of voters in a variety of states switch voting intentions either candidate could win or lose big.

Is Kansas usually Republican? That's the vibe I'm getting.
